recorder playback films good?

Thinking of buying the panny dmr es10, and replacing my s47 dvd player. Do the recorders play back pre recorded dvds as well as a stand alone player?
Is the picture quality as good, remembering that the s47 has no progressive scan or component out.
Basically I want to know if the quality is better with component out on the recorder than rgb on the s47 on plasma screen.

Most of the dvd recorders only have limited features for dvd playback so its probably better to use a dedicated dvd player for this.
