I'm sure this must be easy but I'm not getting anywhere with it. I have a Creative Audigy 2 Platinum sound card in my PC and want to record from either my minidisk walkman (which doesn't have optical out) or one of my hifi separate minidisk decks using an optical cable. I have quite a lot of stuff that I recorded off John Peel some years ago and would like to get it into MP3 or WMA format.

I know which cables and scokets etc to use and can hear the sound through my speakers but I haven't got a clue what to use to actually record onto my hard disk. Do I need some extra sofware to do this ?

Any help you can give will stop me from tearing my hair out !

I can recommend Cool Edit, i've used it on and off over the years, a great wave editor. Just record the input, and save as an MP3. I've not actually used the software for a while, but i assume that it won't save WMA. You used to be able to get non-crippled trials from their website, www.syntrillium.com

Cheers for the prompt reply mate I'll give it a whirl.
P.S. I've just noticed I've been spelling Minidisc wrong

I always thought it should be called minidisk anyway as it's still technically a diskette, and not a disc, hence disk, not disc.

In fact you just prompted me to download the latest Cool Edit Pro 2.1, seems it even encodes 5.1 and all sorts. John Peel could sound glorious in surround!
