Recommended soundbars?

Hey guys,

The Mrs and I have just moved into a new place and are looking at replacing our surround sound system with a sound bar to reduce the amount of wires required.

I like the look of the Sonos Playbar but at almost double the price of the Yamaha YAS-201 is it really worth it?

Are you hoping the soundbar will give you a surround sound experience or just an improvement on your TV? If you are hoping to match a surorund sound system then you mayu well end up disappointed with a soundbar since they will improve on TV speakers but will not immerse you like a 5.1 (or more) surround sound system.

Just looking for an improvement to be honest. It's a rented property and I can't be bothered with the hassle of wires. Not sure how far along wireless speakers are since I last bought.

If you just want improvement I'd go with the Playbar plus you get to use it in a Sonos set up.
If you want to simulate 5.1 then I'd always go with the Yamaha.

The fact the Yamaha is half the price is driving me towards that. The lack of HDMI on both of them is a bit useless though.

Can recommend the yamaha yht s400. I am selling mine here if you are interested. Only reason I am parting with it is that I've managed to configure a room with regular 5.1. Going the opposite direction to you!
