My 360 is connected to a 26" Sammy (via Component) at the mo with the PC connected via the VGA.

I could do with a good value set of speakers to improve the sound quality when gaming. Will have to be 2.1 though as there is no way the wife will agree to more wires around the place (currently the study!). Thought about wireless surrounds, but the rears would need to be powered I think which is also not possible in the room.

Any thoughts on what would allow me to connect the 360 and PC?? (using an old Creative 5.1 soundcard I think?)

Thanks:thumbsup:

Yep - can do mate - whichever will offer me the best combination of flexibility and sound quality!

I'm not too bothered about 5.1 (I know I should be!!) 'cause it just isn't gonna be suitable in the room I am using. Just want a stereo (or pseudo surround??) set up to improve the quality (and introduce a bit of bass obviously lacking from the Sammy LCD!

If you want stereo ones then you can pick them up for cheap, but they arent digital so you cant use optical cable, the only way you could use stereo ones, is to plug them into the headphone port on your TV, which would let the sound come through the speakers, but at the same time eliminating the sound from your TV.

If you use digital ones and optical cable and plug it into component cable you could get the sound from your TV and your speakers. So its really down to wot you want.

Here's a few to look at here!
Depends how much you'd want to spend on them really.
A friend of mine has the Creative Megaworks 250D, here.
Also the Logitech Z-2300's look good too, here.
Both these sets are THX certified and will give you oodles of power and bass.
They will connect through a stereo phono connection and give you powerful 2.1 sound.

Forget about optical! No need for it when not using a 5.1 speaker setup.
Just use the stereo phonos on the HD cable and plug directly into one of the speaker setups linked in my post above. The sound will not come though your TV at all (which is what you want really) and you will see a huge improvement in quality and power.

Good stuff - like the look of those Logitechs! - would blend in well with the LCD - in other words, they look pretty 'wife friendly'! :D

Sorry, just read you'd want to plug in your PC as well.
All you would need to get is 2 of these!
This is so that you could plug 2 pairs of phonos into 1 pair of phono sockets on the rear of the speaker system.

If you fancy splashing out a bit but staying 'wife friendly' (i realise those two statements contradict themselves:D ) then i know there's some denon stereos which are supposed to have amazing surround sound with only 2.1 speakers. They keep showing them on the gadget show and raving on about them. I seem to remember they did some test with a specialist and he thought that the denon's sounded better than a top of the range 5.1 home cinema kit.

lol - yep I saw that programme as well - a little over budget at the mo though!:D

Got some money in my Paypal account - should be enough to cover the cost of the Logitechs - just gotta rearrange a few things to make a bit of room for that sub!

Why not get a Yamaha YSP-800 ? Psuedo 5.1 from one box and you can connect loads of sources to it PC, Sky, DVD, TV as well as the 360 add a samll sub for a cracking sound..... This would make your kit very similar to the AVforums PGR3 race prize that was being given away at the bristol AV show

That's a nice bit of kit - shame that I won't be able to place it in my room:thumbsdow

Also saw (although out of my price range!), the Kef SUrround kit with only two speakers - now that would fit if it were suiable - just can't afford it!!

Does anyone make something similar to the Kef in appearance (ie 2 speakers and a sub) but for a little less dosh!

I do like quality products but would sacrifice a little on this as it will only be used when gaming!

Cheers:thumbsup:

Well , for the amount of use it'll get I didn't want to go over £400 - £500 ideally.

If this isn't possible. I'll probably stick with the Logitech stereo set above!
