I'm going to try and install Asterisk on SUSE 9.3 in the very near future. Has anyone got any advice on what hardware I should use? I've got a spare Athlon 1200+ and 512Mb RAM which I would have thought would provide plenty enough processing power. I've also got two generic X100P modem cards which I believe can be used to interface a phone line to the * server and also interface analogue phones to the server. However, I recently read on www.adslguide.org.uk that the sound quality wasn't too great on these cards and someone recommended using an ATA such as a Sipura 2000 instead. Any thoughts? Initially I'd like to use * to let me call parents, my dad's interested in VOIP too and would also like to set up an * server. Once I've got * up and running I'd like to set up some call routing options to try and reduce phone bills by placing calls via call18866.co.uk, voipbuster, etc. 99% of our calls are to UK landlines with the odd (about one per month) call to Canada. I can't see any compelling reasons to connect either of our analogue home phone lines to an Asterisk server. We've got an answer machine on both lines. If anyone can tell me some cool stuff I can with incoming calls in Asterisk I'd be very interested to hear about it. Higgers.
