i've just bought the yamaha dsp-a5 and ns-p300 series speaker package off a mate and am now comparing the dd5.1/dts soundtracks to see which one i prefer.
    so far i've watched
gladiator r2 (thought 5.1 was better)
    moulin rouge r4(dts)
    predator r1 (dts)
    planet of the apes r4(dts)
    the haunting r1(dts)
any other recommended movies that are in dts to compare would be most welcome
the creaking pipes scene in the haunting nearly blew the plaster off my walls, sh*t myself the first time i heard it

    Terminator 2

The dream sequence with the Nuke going off......

Its a great scene for testing your equipment.

You should get the loud rumbling of the explosive wave the sudden impact of the detonation whilst still hearing the clear 'chinking' of the chain link fence as Sarah shakes it.

    Enjoy

The ultimate DTS disc: R1 'Saving Private Ryan' DTS version.

£13.99 at Future Entertainment last time I checked.

I do also really like 'Behind Enemy Lines'.

Try The Fifth Element on superbit, the whole disk is great but
personally the part where she's on the building before jumping
    are outstanding.

T2 and Pitch Black - both awesome. On my setup Gladiator is better in DTS too.

    happy auditioning! :D

Hmmmmm....I played that bit and didn't find Sarah shaking the fence after the nuke went off. As soon as the nuke struck, she let go of the fence and covered her eyes, so I couldn't hear that 'chinking' duringthe rumble.

maybe I have the exact sequence wrong but I just remember being particularly pleased with the definion of the 'chinking' and the 'whump' of the explosion.

Hope you like my technical terms....

Armageddon Japanese R2 is awesome but very expensive.

Pitch Black and U-571 are good.

Some others worth considering are Gladiator, American Beauty very subtle but great quality

I bought Cast Away when it first came out, having read many reviews saying how great it was, and of course Tom Hanks rarely makes a bad film.

However, is's as dull as ditch water, yeah' the story's good, the endings ok, but the over long bit in the middle, where he's stuck on a desert island, is soooo sloooow. I've watched my copy once since the day I bought it.

Not that I'm trying to put you off buying it, but if like myself, you hate slow movies, then sadly, I'd avoide this one. Put it this way, if you thought the Beach was slow, then this is even slower. ;)

I liked Cast Away quite a lot.

I found the ending a bit crap as it dragged out way beyond the point where it should have finished.

At a tenner its worth getting and the plane crash sequence is very good and also a decent workout for your sound system, if that is what you are looking for.

Isn't the nuke bit the same in all three versions (theatrical, special edition and extended special edition)? Unless you're talking about that quick nuke scene in the dream sequence (which is in both special editions and not theatrical version).

I thought that Unbreakable had some nifty surround effects.
They seemed to appear @ the right time, adding some nice touches to the atmosphere.
The steering on my old Denon AVC10SE was commendable.

    Good DTS track.

I'm talking about the Kyle Reese dream sequence there, you get a quick teaser nuke scene at the end of that.

Vetical Limit superbit is awesome for both picture and sound. the dts track is thumping and very dynamic. check the bit where one of the climbers drops the NO2 and it blows up - amazing! BTW, a lot of people didn't rate it highly i thought it was a great film though:p
