My mother in law is looking for a 32" LCD. Her only real requirement is that it has the speakers at the bottom - not at the side.

I found the following models that seemed to look good:

    JVC 32C31
    Sony 32M1
    Sharp 32GA5E
    Toshiba 32WL48
    Philips 32pf9976

I personally would disregard the Sony because it is the only one that doesn't have either component or HDMI. For the same reason I personally would be inclined to go for the Toshiba or Philips. However, given that they are unlikely to ever want Sky's HDTV (they have no interest is Sky at the moment) or HD DVDs (they don't watch any DVD's either) the lack of HDMI on the JVC and Sharp is probably not important.

Any recommendations or thoughts on these models?

Depending on your budget, Loewe Xelos SL 32 (RRP £3000+options), or Spheros 32 (RRP £3600+options). Careful what options you are included in any prices, they can make ££££ difference to the price - ie turn a £3.5k TV into a £5k TV in the case of the Spheros. Both are available cheaper in the web.

I have seen this TV in action and like the look of it, BUT the major problem with it, in view of Skys recent announcement, is that it is out of date before it even hits the streets proper... NO HDMI!
