My Tosh SD220 seems to have given up, so I'm looking for a "cost-effective" replacement.

My requirements aren't high - I've only a 28" CRT, sound output is via 2 channel stereo, and I'm not looking to change the TV in the near future or go up to 5/6/7.1 at all. I have a dedicated CD player so that is not a requirment, but I do want the best picture and audio quality I can get for my money (naturally!)

I've also no real interest in DVD-A or SACD as I can't see these formats lasting much longer.

I've seen some positive comments about the Denon 1720 - is there any point in spending much more based on my "modest" requirments?

Not too keen on going the Tosh route again as whilst it gave a good performance (nothing to judge it against however, it was my first DVD player), I've had it almost three years it's not had a lot of use - probably no more than 500 hours use.

Any other brands/models I should be looking at?
