    (I posted a similar thread earlier, but it doesn't seem to have appeared on the forum - appologies if I'm posting the same question twice)

    I demo'd the Yamaha YSP 800 in Sevenoaks and thought that it was fantastic considering it's only 'one' speaker. However, are there any 2.1 systems out there that I could consider as an alternative - I don't really want a 5.1 system. My budget is up to £600 and this would need to include an amp and the speakers.

    Thanks

    I would suggest that it depends if you want it for music or film.

    I demoed the YSP-1 and was impressed with its surround capabilitieswith film. When it tried music, the sound was really awful.

    Hope this helps

    Just for films. I'm new to home cinema stuff and don't really know what's good or not. I've been looking through magazines but most of the amp/speaker packages reviewed are 5.1. I'm after a 2.1 or similar setup and would like to know if there are any good one's out there up to the £600 mark.

    went to a shop today and the guy got me listening to a bose 2.1 system.... i know alot of people on here are not keen but in my opinion it sounded excellent for 2.1 and would be ideal for you.. looked good and sounded good with music too (even if it was queen :))

    he mentioned that as a newer model is on its way he would do a good deal on that one and that was at £600

    def worth a look!

    was it a BOSE 321? or a stereo "cube" system? AM6??? honestly there are much better ways to waste £600! for 2.1 you could consider something like 2 canton CD50 and an AS15SC sub need an AMP as well which you dont with Yamaha YSP........

    not pushing bose at all... i have gallos... just thought they did sound pretty good for 2.1, however as its firstt 2.1 i have listened to there may well be better on the market for cheaper !

    but then again as the guy said... most people who buy bose from me see the logo on the speaker grilles in their porsche or merc everyday and think if i paid £5k for a premium sound system in my car they must be good for my home!!

    The YSP-1 is good but for me the KEF KIT100 is the best 2.1 lifestyle set-up (i've owned both)
