My current system consists of a Denon 3802, Rel Q100E and Acoustic Energy Aegis Three fronts, Aegis One rears and Aegis center.........

My question is basically, what smaller, satelite-type speakers would you recommend I replace the AEs with? I am currently pretty happy with my system, but am thinking about changing the speakers to a sub/sat combo primarily because of space saving, but also because of various comments I have read on here over the months. Now I am only thinking about this switch, and for it to happen I would need to sell the AEs and buy the new speakers with the money I get, and not much more! So basically the new speakers would have to be fairly inexpensive......

    Any thoughts/ideas??

To get anything approaching the quality of the Aegis package ... you would be having to look at B&W VM1 / KEF Egg kind of price range.

I would think long and hard before making such a switch (unless enforced onto you) as I think you'll be disappointed with any sub/sat system compared with your Aegis.

Have you considered maybe looking at replacing the Aegis Three with a pair of new Aegis Evo Two stand mounts? These will be smaller but considerable better than KEF Eggs (or similar).

I'm not really being forced into it but I would rather have a pakage that simply takes up less space. The fronts are normal, 'floorstander' size and yes, I would prefer something smaller, but the rears are the real stumbling block because they sit on speaker stands at the back of the room and are pretty imposing! I have obviously read comments on the Kef eggs and they are the package that has caught my eye, but I think I'm correct when I say that if I was to sell my AEs, I would be some way short of affording them?

I will check out those Evo Two's now..........

    Cheers :)

OK, I've quickly and briefly checked out the Acoustic Energy website and although I haven't seen the Aegis Evo Two's you speak of, I have found some Aegis Compacts which look perfect for 'smaller rears'. My only worry is that these compact speakers will not match the quality of my existing, and bigger Aegis One rears.

    Any thoughts??

My mistake about Aegis Evo 2 ... thought they did a larger stand mount than the Aegis 1.

How about going for the Aegis Compacts as rears, then moving the Aegis 1 to the front. The compacts will be fine for the rears ... and in terms of sound quality will probably be better than the KEF Eggs ...

.......and selling the Aegis Three floorstanders? Not a bad idea at all. I would be a little worried about loosing quality overall by essentially downgrading speakers in every department, but it is an option. I wonder how this set-up would compare to the Kef eggs - do you really think it would be 'better'?

The obvious first port of call has to be Uncle Eric and his Gallo balls. You've probably read all the comments on those.
If you want small, then that's about the best from what I know, on your budget you'll get.

Sound quality will be good all round and you'll save space.

Unless you're prepared to up your budget or are happy to go the smaller Aegis route for example, I can't see many obvious answers.

Well the obvious two questions as far as I'm concerned are, how much can his Gallo balls be aquired for, and, will they improve on my Acoustic Energy set-up?

You need to speak to Uncle Eric and his power buys on them. Pay less for greater quality.

Have a look in the power buy section for people's cost/views on them.

As I understand it, you'll have a mucg better system, save space and be quite a gentleman of fashion.;)

You should also generate part of the funds from your current set up.

Well ... you can always just try the Aegis 1 as fronts before spending ANY money ... just swap front/rear arround.

well if you want balls ... how about selling the Aegis Three plus centre, buy 3 balls for front 3, then later you can buy 2/3/4 more for the rear channels ...

Still won't be cheep ... but you don't have to upgrade everything at once.

No use asking for help on this forum i'm sure AV has left most of us in financial ruin.
The Gallos balls have certainly put a dent in my rainy day money, but if you're asking for a big sound from a small "box" they're definitely worth a listen.

Any ideas how much I could get for my AEs?? ;)
