I want to buy my folks a Media Centre PC for their living room, as cheap as poss.

It must have Vista Home Premium (so I can get Vista MC).

The big problem I can forsee is they have a 32" Sharp CRT TV that doesn't have DVI, HDMI or VGA.

    Any ideas?

Hmmm sounds like they could do with a new TV before a HTPC. On another note you are best building one of getting one built for you ;)

They're not going to get a new TV for 3 years, my mum's adamant about that. The one they have is only a year old and has 3 years left on the warranty.

I guess I'd just need to make sure the gfx card on the Media Centre PC has TV-out?

Where would you recommend getting one built?

Oh dear - I hope it wasn't you that recommended they buy it!

You're never going to get a good picture via s-video. Wouldn't a PVR be a more sensible solution?

If you must have a PC with a scart, I think you're limited to the pre-built PCs such as the Acer iDea.

It doesn't have to have a SCART, a gfx with S-Video out would do.

They want Vista Media Center, nothing else, so a HTPC is the way to go.

And by the time they get an HD TV, we'll also have Freeview in our area, so an HTPC is kind "future proofing" a bit IMO.
