Recommend me a good sub cable

    As title.
    My current Ixos 1081 is too short for my new sub location so I've got to change it.
    I have loads of different cables at the back of my system so:-
    Should I go for a better cable with better shielding or will another (longer)1081 do the job just as well.
    Do pricey cables make a difference to a sub?

    I think good shielding is very important, particularly on longer cables and if you run them near power cables etc. I use a Mark Grant Cable (Powerbuys on this forum), which has worked very well - no humming, despite the cable running next to a some power cables. Also you can order them for any length you require - which I found handy. If you do a search of this forum, you will find some good feedback.

    Or you could make your own and save some money, i have a 8m cable running under the floor.Its heavily sheilded and as worked without a fault on all three subs i have owned.I have tried a purpose made cable and could tell no difference other than it was cheaper made,the cables Mark Grant makes and sells will be better than most you can buy,one lead i opened up used very poor cable.

    I have a 5 metre standard phono cable connected to my sub. Cost me £2 and I can tell no difference between that one and a 5 metre one I borrowed from a mate that cost £50

    I made a 15m cable using double shielded microphone cable which is very flexible. Cost me £11 including the plugs IIRC. Very happy with the end result.

    i use a QED silver reference ( SR-SW ) for my pv1 and it sounds superb, cost about £70 for 3m

    I also use a QED SR-SW for my sub, great cable, runs along side the power cable for my sub with no interference what so ever.

    Thanks guys.
    It looks as though this is not a crucial area except for interference from mains cables.
    I don't fancy making my own so will probably look at Mark Grants. Be nice to keep it in the (avforum) family.
