Hi folks so i'm mainly a lurker here

but i'm having a hard time deciding what kind of laptop i want

i will be completely getting rid of my desktop pc for now so that will raise a little bit of cash and also free up some room i want this for study, leisure and the odd encoding/editing projects

my limit is...... well as cheap as possible but good specs :D so about £500-600 could possibly go upto 800 but would rather not.

Things i do know

i would like is an ssd and a quadcore i5/i7/xeon with 13inch screen
not bothered too much about GPUs and would prefer a backlit keyboard

I've had a look myself but there is too many choices and brands

any advice would be appreciated.

Really? Because as far as I'm aware you can count the number of 13" models with a quad core processor on one hand. There's MSI's GS30 and, um...

It's not that common even at 14", by and large smaller laptop buyers aren't interested in the extra heat, noise and power consumption of a quad core processor.

£500-600 is also rather optimistic. That's the entry level price for a quad core machine at 15" and smaller laptops tend to be more expensive.

I bought a Dell XPS13 (L321x) from the Dell refurbished shop for about £750 (RRP was something like £1300) and its still going strong some 4 years later, better spec and much faster than my works laptop which was £700 a month ago

Well a small update I've came across 2 options so far

£480

PCS - 13.3" Lafité
i3 6100u
8GB DDR3
500GB SSD
1920x1080 IPS screen
2x2 AC wireless
backlit keyboard

5-6 days build time

its cheaper as you don't need to take an OS with it

so I can install my own with licence key

or

£560
Thinkpad 13
i3 6100u
8GB DDR4
256GB SSD
1920x1080 IPS screen
2x2 wireless
no backlift keyboard

12 days delivery/build time

So I'm unsure about PC specialists I've know of their forums but never had any experience of buying a laptop built there or know anyone who has one

while the thinkpad I like typing on that keyboard last time I used one many years ago

don't think i'll be able to find a quadcore in this section

as even the i7 is a dualcore.
