Recommend an SACD player for less than £300

    Inspired by the release of War of the Worlds on SACD, I'm after an SACD player for less than £300.

    The player is to used ONLY for SACD as I've already got an Arcam CD33 and a DV79 for CD, DVD and DVD-Audio duties.

    All suggestions welcome as I know next to nothing about SACD players.

    Spend £99 at Richer Sounds and get a Pioneer 575 dvd player?

    I'm sure you will get better, but much better for below £300, I don't know?

    Or one one of the cheap sony sacd players for £120-£150 again from Richer.

    I'm sure good midpriced ones that you are after exist but i'm not sure how much quality difference there is between these players and say a all in one like the Denon 3910 up at £800 to do dvd duties as well, and sell your DVD79 (even though I guess as you have a CD33 a Denon 3910 wouldn't match the rest of your kit).

    The Pioneer at £99 is so cheap you cannot really go wrong with it :)

    I've dem'd a 575 against a mid range Marantz (DV6400 if I remember correctly). The 575 was pretty rubbish, even on SACD, whereas the 6400 was a match for my Naim CD player (6400 playing SACD, the Naim playing the equivalent CD). Note that it didn't sound the same, but overall was roughly on par.

    As a point, I do own a 575, which is presently used for DVD only duties.

    You might be able to pick up a 2nd or 3rd hand Denon 2900 for £300.

    Very good with SACD, imho. However, they are famous for being unreliable, so buyer beware!

    Alternatively, there are some Philips 963A's going for less than a ton, and they are supposed to be rather good.

    You should also check out the Pio 757ai, as that's supposed to be a pretty good all-rounder too - £300/£350 ish methinks....
