Recommend a DVD player for Sony BRAVIA KDL-32V2000

Hello everyone,

My father in law has just bought a Sony BRAVIA KDL-32V2000 32" but he is using it with an extremely poor dvd player (we're talking less than £30!). Unsurprisingly, the picture isn't as great as it could be.

Can anyone suggest a DVD player for around £50-£70 that would improve the viewing experience? I was thinking maybe a Philips DVP5960 DVD Player as it has HDMI output.

Would he need a HDMI to HDMI cable or a HDMI to DIV(?) cable with that?

Thanks

Go for a Toshiba 360e - I think you should be able to pick it up for 60 quid.

Spending £1000s on the TV and hooking it up to the cheapest players possible makes absolutely no sense at all. You might as well have gone for an Argos set in the first place. At least try the new Denon 1930 and see how much better even a low-end player makes the screen look. £50 DVD players are for people who have to make do with that price range until they can afford something better.

hi guys

don't wanna get on anyones nerves here but i have to sort of disagree with bosque. whilst i wouldn't recommend buying a tesco value dvd player for a sony lcd...at the same time i had a £60 pioneer which, through component, offered a very pleasing picture.

i have since upgraded to an oppo 971 which i run into my sony lcd via hdmi...but the pioneer was perfectly acceptable. if you want to get the best for your money offering the performance of a much more expensive dvd player then the oppo 971 is a bargain at £165.

but if your budget won't allow then any of the better makes, pioneer/sony etc should give you a good bang for your buck

the pioneer DV-696AV is around £125
the sony Dvp-ns76h is around £85

both have very good reputations on the forum..search for these models and you'll dedicated threads for each one..there are other models as well..but these two are well regarded apprently

cheers

Thanks. I can see what you are saying but my father-in-law has blown most of his cash on the tv itself and doesn't use a dvd player all that much, so it's not really worth him investing in a better dvd player. I'll take a look at the players you recommended.

Can anyone tell me what sort of HDMI lead he will need? HDMI to HDMI?

I've been reading about the Toshiba SD 360E and it seems a lot of people have problems with them...not sure if I want to recommend this dvd player to be honest. The Samsung HD860 seems better, but is it multi-region?

the sony Dvp-ns76h all the way. I have it connected to my Sony Bravia 32V2000 over HDMI at 1080i and its absolutely stunning. Nearly as good as Blu-ray playback from my PS3.

I'm going to urge him to get the sony. Can you tell me what sort of HDMI cable he needs to get to connect it to his sony 32v2000 tv? Cheers
