Seeing as the R4 Revolution is nigh on impossible to get at the moment can anybody recommend another card which will work in the same way as the R4?

They're on back order, then have -86 units in stock which is another way of saying they need to satisfy those orders first, any more will show as positive stock.

There's also the M3, which is essentially the exact same. There's 'Simply' and a 'Real' version though, and i'm not too sure on the differences between them, so maybe someone else can shed some light on that.

I've just recieved the Top Toy one, just waiting for my memory so i can see how it works...will let you know. I can't comment on what its like presentation wise against the R4 or others as I haven't seen those in the flesh.

You could try here in one or two weeks, or alternatively buy the Super ds one (though I think you have to patch the homebrew with that one) it is on special offer whilst the R4 is out of stock

    http://www.consoleplus.co.uk/product_info.php?pName=r4-slot-1-micro-sd-to-ds-lite-adapter

I bought loads of stuff from them in the past, and been to their warehouse to pick up somtimes and their very friendly

I have the R4DS and my girlfriend has the M3 DS Real, both with 2GB SanDisk microSD cards.

Some minor points about both (they're basically the same otherwise):

-R4DS comes better packaged with a cool cartridge holder
-R4DS has many UI themes available (check out www.ndsthemes.com)
-R4DS has a cleaner, simpler UI

-M3 Real has a spring-clip for the microSD
-M3 Real has more memu options
-M3 Real has very little themes available, and the UI isnt very nice looking

I think Supercarstore.com might have the R4DS in stock, which is where I got mine from. The M3 was ordered from Consoleup.com. Both provided great
    service.

    Hope this helps ;)

There are R4/M3DSSimply/CycloDS which are all very similar with similar GUI's and similar ways to use (all slot-1 carts). All info on these and where to buy is here:
    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=470377

I think the OP specifically requires a different type of card?
In which case, you can also go for a card with a built in memory allocation like the DS-Xtreme. This has an inbuilt memory and connects to your computer via a USB-mini cable. The reviewer I linked to seems to rate it highly with a 9.9/10. It is also a slot-1 cart.

Then there are carts that slot into the GBA slot (slot-2) instead of the DS top slot (thus leaving that one free). These include ones such as SuperCard DSLite:
    ...and the M3 Lite.

There's plenty of info and reviews on these both on Google and YouTube (as I myself have never used them).....but the principles are all broadly similar (allowing you to utilise homebrew and play backups).

If you can't find an R4, there are plenty of options to choose from here :).

After reading recommendations on in this forum I ordered from Supercardstore on the 30 January and two order enquiries and no replies later I still don't have the R4DS and have no idea when it will be delivered, if ever, since my account on their website does not show that I made an order at all  Luckily I do have a payment confirmation email from Protx as proof of purchase.

If you order from Supercardstore I would recommend that you contact them first, unfortunately you can only contact them via thier website as they don't list a contact number or email address. :lesson:

You were right as my cards (2 of them) both arrived today

Ok so they forgot to include the CD apparently (no real loss there) but they did inform me of this via email, and provided a link to download

so I too can now recomend mp3players.co.uk

Now if only the micro sd cards had turned up (different supplier)

oh thats unfortunate. i ordered my memory card from a different supplier as well. it didnt make sense to get the r4+card bundle when getting them separately was so much cheaper. i was actually expecting to get the separately as well but luckily they both came at the same time for me:)

seems like ill be ordering another one soon after the gf stole my ds for the day lol. she has her own for goodness sake:rotfl:

    THREAD CLOSED.

We have created some new threads to post about various software, slot carts and "where to buy" advice (these are to be used from now on :) - hopefully it will make it easier to track down what you want)

Homebrew/Firmware Discussion: Anything about the hundreds of LEGAL homebrew games/apps, as well as the latest firmware discussion (for ALL types of cart) to go here please.

Slot 1 Carts: Carts such as the R4 revolution DS or the DS Xtreme should be discussed in here. Again, no piracy discussion please.

Slot 2 Carts: Carts such as the Supercard DS Lite should be discussed in here. Again, no piracy discussion please.

Buying Advice: This thread should be used to ask for advice about "which cart should I buy". Buying advice for both Slot-1 and Slot-2 carts in here please (no piracy).

    :)
