sorry mods if this is in the wrong place, just need a quick response.

My wife, two kids and me are for London for a week starting on Monday.

Car Hire is something I know very little of. We are flying into and out of Gatwick from Monday to Monday.

I am after a cheapish car, not a really small one though. Focus, golf, something maybe like that.

Could anyone recommend a company to use and how much I should be paying, travelsupermarket gives me loads of options with loads of company's I've never heard of.

    Thanks

I hear Trotters Independent Traders Co. are great value ;)

Aside from that, I've never had an issue with Avis or Europecar.

    I used Sixt recently
Booked a Corsa for a few days and ended up with a VW Polo
All ok and less than £20 a day

Although I have vowed never to drive anything that has the words BlueMotion written on the back ever again!!!

When you say 'London' are you staying in the centre where all the attractions are? If so I would suggest getting an Oyster card and using the underground instead. Driving in central London is a nightmare IMHO (I occasionally have to work there and carry tools/parts in my car so have no choice but to drive).

You could get the Gatwick express train into London itself, then underground from there. I suppose the only issue is how much luggage you're carrying/small children. Though even then a taxi from the train station to the hotel would help there.

Also be aware that if you travel in and out of the congestion charge zone at £11.50 (£10 auto pay) you will have to pay for each day that you pass into it.
