Recommend a 26" LCD - Cost versus Features?

The Wife wants to get a new LCD for the bedroom. Looked at a few so far and she reckons 26" is about the right size.

She will not pay a lot though as its 'only' for the bedroom.

Obviously it needs to have some form of HD and be digital for the soon to be switchover down here in a few months.

It will only have a cheap DVD player attached to it and be used for some films / various tv series and also for playing kids stuff the baby. currently Fimbles and soon to be Trumpton, Camberwick Green and Bagpuss !

So it does not need to be the best quality or best make - just reliable with a reasonable warranty and spec list.

I did spy a nice looking panasonic a couple of weeks ago whilst we were in Coment but she took one look at the price (circa £600 iirc??) and said 'half that price!'

What can you get for that sort of money these days that would be recommended ?

Thanks a lot.

Despite not having the best panel type, overall the Panasonic TX26LXD80 is an excellent tv, clearly better than Sony's offerings when you physically compare them side by side. Lots of places advertising the Panasonic for £350-400.

thanks Alsina.

trouble is she does not / will not pay more than £300 for a 'bedroom' tv oif this size....

so I guess i was wondering if anyone would recommend one of the 'other' makes than say sony/panasonic ?

ie LG / Samsung / Sharp / Toshiba / lesser known or popular...

Thanks

thanks i'll take a look online at some Sharp 26" and try to visit some local stores.

Sharp are decent, i also quite like this LG LG 26LG3000 - 26 Inch HD Ready TVs - Electrical Experience >

sure its not the best 26" around but the PQ is fairly decent, a good buy for £300, and the misus should like it because its an attractive piece of kit (being by LG).

Look at LGs and Sharps, the other more budget brands are amazingly average, you can get a lot for your money from LG and Sharp
