Im Still On Dial Up At Moment But Think I Need Broadband.
Not Sure What Speed I Need.
I Really Want To Spend About £15 A Month.
Virgin Has One With A 3 Gig Limit For About This Price. Does Anyone Have Any Experience With Them.
Does Anyone Do An Unlimited Download One For About This Price. I May Pay More If I Have To.

PlusNet, I've just started using them and they seem to be very good. I know quite a few people using them too and thay have no complaints. www.plus.net

For the love of God, don't use Bulldog, horrible, nasty experience with them.

u have to pay £21 for uncapped plusnet, i might consider that soon though

but if u want a decent uncapped £15 service go for pipex solo broadband www.pipex.net no limits and 256k down.

if u decide to go with pipex in the end let me know by pm/email and i can send u a invite and get u and myself an extra free month :D

I'm considering s7even. 1M uncapped for £10 a month + free modem. You have to pay upfront for 24 months though.

Another vote for PlusNet...........just signed up to the Premier package which gives a 2Mb connection and unlimited access for £21.99 a month. They do have a cheaper option available if you look at the site.

Telewest blueyonder are the best by far IMHO. Always incrediably fast, very reliable, great customer service.

I am currently with bt yahoo at the moment, it is reliable, but the customer service is poor, and it doesn't feel as fast as it should do.

Can't comment on the Customer Service (never used it) but I'm with BT Internet and think the service is spot on. I have never had any downtime and it seems good for gaming - indeed last night I had a ping of just 5 in CS:S on Jolt (although it's normally about 25).

yes ive been finding out about plusnet and the sales man says on the £15 package your download speeds are reduced for p2p during the day, so if your a p2p user premier is the package to go for. and premier also has better webspace statistics.

at steve: does the website stuff come preloaded (eg. php mysql cpanel) or do i need to get and install all that awkward stuff myself?

    thanks :p

    pay 24 months upfront.

if you ask about s7even most people will say theyve not heard of it, and their website doesnt seem as professional as others either.

    2 things could happen

    1) the sh*ttiest service ever (and your stuck with it for 2 years)

    2) could go busty or whatever in 1 year.

just go with plus.net or pipex.net

pay for quality not quantity ;)

I am always wary of new members backing companies, especially when they don't appear to offer that great of a deal.

i totally agree. this used to happen a lot back in the unmetered dial-up days. A company would start up, take your money, which was usually £50 - £100 depending on the ISP then after a few months they'd go bust when they realised they couldn't afford to keep the service running for so little money.

At least with monthly fees you're only really paying for what you're using and you won't lose out if the company goes belly up, but if you've paid 24 months worth and then they go bust a month later, that's over £200 down the drain!

Personally i would suggest ntl as a decent broadband isp. i know some people have trouble with them, but my service has always been fine and you can get 1mb for £17.99 a month, 2mb for £24.99 a month, or 3mb for £37.99 a month without the need to have a phone line, not to mention sometime in 2006 your speed will get upgraded to a mind boggling 10mb without any price increase!

thanks for the advice. going to look into some of these suppliers in the week. cant afford to pay for 24 months upfront. dont mind some sort of download limit but im not sure how much i will download in a month. at first i will be downloading a few hi def clips. also quite a few music tracks and normal videos.

Yup, another vote for Plusnet. Been with them over a year, and no problems. Get pretty much constant download speeds of 250k/s with my 2Mb connection. Good support also.

Anyone any views on demon.net? I know they used to be very good but expensive as they were aimed at business customers but I see their prices have come down alot recently.

I know most of you recommend plus.net but I had a previous account suspended for using my 24/7 free uncapped dialup too much several years ago and dont want to contact them again (the said I still had to pay the months notice subscription fee though I would get no service which I refused)

well yesi emailed plusnet and asked if its truly uncapped and they mentioned they wont like it if u go over 150gb in a month.

so that gives me about 4.5gb per day, which i could get carried away with on a 2mb connection, eg torrents, online gaming (dont know how much bandwidth that wud eat an hour aday) etc, but thats what is keepinjg me back at the moment. :lesson: hmm
