    Arrg, it's all too hard....

I've order my speakers large, not as big as my current setup but very WAF (at least my W) friendly Castle Stirlings, compacts and a Bastion with a castle sub, (was going for pembrokes but they ain't shielded ;-()

SO I've over spent a little (about 250quid so far) I had set a ceiling of 3K for the system (speakers, receiever, new cables, and interconnects maybe with a DVD).

I must have video switching and have about £1100 left to spend on reciever plus DVD to match the stirlings.....

I'm thinking of NAD 763 plus T533 (if I can find it)
    H/K 630 plus DVD 22....
    Marantz 7400?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated....

Of course the skinflint in me says go buy a Cambridge Audio Azur setup from richer (500quid) and if it's doggy doo doo take it back!....

    SImon.

It seems that most if not all bugs on the Cambridge have been fixed.

    To be confirmed.

You won't be dissappointed with the Marantz SR7400, give it a listen...

But then, I would say that ;)

Took a trip down to Sevenoaks manchester today,

    Yam 2400, Arcam 300, HK630 Denon 3805...

The Yamaha and the HK lasted about 2 minutes of real listening 2 channel flat and lifeless when driving the Castle Stirlings.

The arcam made a good effort but just was lacking a bit of definition.

The Denon so far has my money loads of definition and tonality.

I really want to listen to the NAD 763 or the Marantz 7400 now - Sevenoaks don't stock them. May pop up to Hifibitz (Romers in Blackburn)....

sounds like you're buying an AV receiver for 2 channel use, which is a little odd.

Well it will do 40-50% of the time, as does my current Yam795. The rest of the time it will perform AV duties with a Castle surround setup (Stirlings, compacts, bastion, sub). However 2 channel audio is important to me and I would like to use a dedicated amp. The WAF factor however won't let me so I have to use a single device .... hence this 2 channel experiment.

I was surprised at the HK myself I'd listened with some Monitor Audio's before and it was good, the real dissapointment was the Arcam tho - although I've got 400quid in my back pocket as a result....
