Receiver that handles sacd & DVD-A via HDMI

I plan to exchange my current DVD-player and surround-receiver to cut down on cables (avoid 6 x RCA cables which analog sacd&DVD-A requires)! Here I consider the OPPO DV-980H (which is capable of DSD output over HDMI) but the choice of receiver is a little more difficult. I am considering either Marantz SR7001 / Onkyo TX-SR705 or Yamaha (not the newest model either), but the spec is a little vague on whether the receivers handles DVD-a both 2-CH and multichannel? And has anyone made a compareson of soundquality for sacd&DVD-a via RCA versus HDMI? A lot of questions but I hope someone can help?!

Hi,

Looked into this a little while ago. Can't comment on the Marantz or Onkyo but I seem to remember that there was a problem with the Yamahas (latest models as of about 3 months ago) and SACD over the HDMI. It may have been the Yamaha player rather than the receiver though. Personally, I decided on the Pioneers (LX 60 or LX70) which, according to the manuals will handle it. Sorry if this is not much help - best I can do. No doubt others will give you a better judgement.

Thanx but the LX60 and LX70 is a little over my budget and I have decided to go with either Marantz, Onkyo or Yamaha.
