Question Receiver for under £500. Does anything compete with the Denon X3300W?

I am looking for an amp that is fully capable of passing through 4k with HDCP 2.2.

Is there anything worth considering other than the Denon?

Thanks

The Yamaha RXV781 has many of the features you are getting with the AVRX3300 sans second HDMI zone capabilities. It does however include a second mirrored HDMI output and an integral phono stage.

Thanks for that. I was unaware of the RXV range.

Anything else to consider from Marantz, Onkyo or Arcam perhaps?

Onkyo aren't as good as they once were and now have a poor reputation for reliability plus an abysmal proprietary room EQ system called AccuEQ. A comparable or close to comparable Marantz model would exceed the proposed budget, but the SR6011 is worth a look. Arcam will be well beyond the proposed budget. Note that if considering spending more on the Marantz then also look at DEnon AVRX4300 which is one of the best value for money receivers you can buy right now.

Thanks. I can buy B-Stock of the Denon X3300W for £470 and the Marantz SR6011 is available for £570. The X4300H is £700, so probably out of the question.

Which would you go for bare in mind my requirement is only for 5.1 but I need good EQ for my Sub.

Thanks

I know its a 9 channel receiver, but I'd go with the Marantz receiver. It includes a superior level of Audyssey's room EQ correction when compared to the AVRX3300. It also includes all the features you'd get with the AVRX3300 plus an integral phono stage and Marantz proprietary GDAM analogue output circuitry. It should outperform the AVRX3300.

You were thinking X2300? :D X3300 has the same Audussey MultEQ XT32 which is in SR6011. So the main differences are 2more channels and HDAM. X3300 was just reviewed & measured in Audioholics site. Much better performance than in similar Yamaha (A-860).

Tyler Durden; Marantz might be better choice for long term if you need those extra channels later plus the HDAM etc. And Marantz definitely looks nicer especially with silver colour! :) Performance should be same on both. But if you are sure 5.1 / 5.2.2 is all you need then X3300 is quite a bargin now.

If you go with grade-b, check the warranty! Peter Tyson gives 1 year extra warranty for both machines (total 3years), that is for new ones! It may come haunt you later if something happens with the cheaper one..Usually shorter warranty. You never know these days.
