Hi all, I've been perusing through the threads on here, but haven't really found anything that quite answers my question.

Basically, I'm looking to buy a receiver and speakers for stereo (music) playback primarily (sourced from either a Squeezebox (optical/SPDIF) or optical out of PC. In the future I'd like to be able to expand this out to connect to DVD and then 5.1, but not quite yet.

Music wise, I listen to a bit of everything, so good all round performance is a must.

So, what would you recommend? I'm looking at spending around £300-400 max for both amp and speakers. I don't mind buying an older model, or even second hand.

    Cheers!

You can probably pick up a sony strdb790 for around £200 online. leaves you a fair amount for speakers. if music is your thing make sure you get a decent set of bookshelf/floorstanders for the fronts. sat/subs dont do music properly(big midrange gap).

    hope this helps

Also look at Marantz and Nad. There amps are good for music and also second hand Arcam's.
