Hi, we have been told that a higher power amp (Arcam AVR300) would be better for lower volume listening than a less powerful one (Denon 3805). By power, I mean actual watts per channel, not just manufacturers quoted figures.
Is this true, or a sales pitch?
Will the effect be reduced by using low impedance speakers? - we will be using Quad L series, rated at 6 ohms
We did try demoing this but the room size was very different from ours, so it was hard to ccompare this particular feature.
    Please help, :lease:
    Thanks.

IMHO, the Arcam would be better than the Denon, but not because it is more powerful. I would argue that the "quality" of the amplification is more important.

Quads are one of my favs for listening at low volumes.

Essentially the dealer is telling the truth, more powerfull amps generally get better components, don't make the mistake of equating watts with volume.

Don't forget about the speakers in your system, if you want to hear clarity and depth at low volumes the lower the volume the better your speakers need to be.
