I received my PSP yesterday along with 2 games (Ridge Racer and Metal Gear Acid), whilst the game playing is great I am a little frustrated with many of the game menus being in Japanese.

Does anyone know whether there is an option within the game menus to switch this to english?

    Many Thanks

From what I have read Metal Gear Acid is difficult to play as it's some sort of card based game and mostly in Japanese but I did buy Ridge Racers and have found that it's generally fairly self explanatory due to the pictures and option positions (e.g. when you pause a race the options are "continue","restart" and "quit" respectively which is what you would normally expect). The bulk of the game is in English though so you soon get used to it.

I cannot believe how many people buy stuff from japan and then complain because they are in Japanese! :rotfl:

Imagine all those Japanese people importing from England and then complaining becuase the menus are in English!

Just goes to show - the whole world should speak and behave like us English! Colonialism rules!

To be honest, when you are importing from Japan you should expect everything to be in Japanese and if it isnt then feel lucky, I have already read a post by someone complaining the manual for the PSP is in Japanese, well what do you expect its a Japanese console, not a UK or US model.

We are just lucky that the PSP itself can be set to English otherwise we would be in alot of trouble lol

Also, from what I have read about Metal Gear Acid, it is a very bad game to buy if you cant speak Japanese as you will have no idea what is going on. For now the best game seems to be Ridge Racers as even though some of the options are in Japanese, everything else is in English.

Thankyou for the advice, I don't understand why all assume I was complaining rather than merely trying to find out if I could change an option within the game.

because you said 'I am a little frustrated with many of the game menus being in Japanese.' You've bought a Japanese product and are frustrated it's in Japanese. Why should a product designed to be used in Japan have to cater to the English language?

people do tend to read post wrong sometimes, anyway, I remember when I got Super Mario 64 & my nintendo 64 on import, you soon get used to the text and will eventually know what mot things mean like stereo, mono, continue, quit etc.

Cant beleive this crap. If you dont want to have language problems then DONT IMPORT! :nono:

Its a Japanese PSP with all the games in Japanese.
There is no English on these games nor should there be.
Wait for the official UK edition.
Ive got Ridge Racers, and it doesnt need English to be played. How dimm do you have to be to not be able to play a racing game!

As indy jones said, people import from Japan then complain about manuals and stuff "not being in english" ???

Thanks to the individuals who had the courtesy to understand and respond in a reasonable manner. To the others who seem more keen to "attack" I send my sincere sympathy to all that know them, I am sure they will grow out of it one they reach teenage years.

Perhaps you should learn to understand that English does not rule the planet. And perhaps you should understand that when you import something from a non English speaking country you should not expect those products to have any English on them.

To answer your original question, No these particular games do not have a meny in English. Actually most games never do.
(I had to learn to play Final Fantasy 7 in Japanese!)

Still there have been games in the past that have had English in them.

It wasnt a personal attack on you, just your way of thinking that is shared by many.

And Im 27 by the way.

some games in jap can be played quite easily. although text heavy games[ zelda, final fantasy etc] are a nightmare. the resident evil series with the puzzles can be quite interesting , in that most f the puzzles are quite simple, but in jap they are quite solve able but you have too think a little harder.on the subject of the 2 games the guy bought[ r racers/ metal gear] r racers is absolutley amazing , in fact compare this with its ds counterpart. metal gear acid looks a little different from the norm. the psp is gonna wup the ds[ and no im not a sony fanboy...i have the nintendo ds also]

I'm amazed I can type so well and afford a DS and a PSP as I have not yet reached teenage years!

Can we also stop using JAP! The correct abbreviation is JPN. Jap is actually quite offensive to anyone who is Japanese!

Look guys, He i not complaining about japanese text, he is only asking if there is an option in there for english in there that you guy know of, it can be quite hard to find the english option (if its there) if all the text is in Japanese and one of you might have found it.

Could you look at the second post from Conington in this thread too, please?

I made a general comment, and did not appreciate a personal attack in response.

Maybe his original post was misunderstood, but if he had phrased it better, maybe it wouldn't have been!

    Meant the third one, sorry!

If he can't express himself properly, and some people misunderstand - there is no need for personal comments surely?

Personally I think hes made a useful point about the menus. There much debate about if is better to go for a Jap or US PSP import at the moment.

This is another reason why the US option looks to be better in my opinion.

yeah i was waiting for the us one to come out but i can smell shortages in the air, i reckon even if you preorder a us one for delivery to the uk , if you order now i think your gonna be waiting at least 1-2 weeks for the backlog of preorders to clear before its even dispatched.
i decided that i simply could not wait anymore and got a jap one

Possibly but I read somewhere that they have been stockpilling 3 Million units for the North American Launch

I guess only time will tell. I preordered mine this week anyway I`m not desperate for it. I am a sure I will have it quite a bit before they are available over here and at a much lower price.
