After deciding over the Pioneer DV-646A or the Toshiba SD-510 I took the plunge and bought neither , instead I saved a few more pennies and got myself the Pioneer DV-747A I haven't set it up properly yet as it came yesterday while I was at work (footie was on last night!). But I put in Memento and noticed the difference in quality straight away, tonight I will set it up correctly and annoy the neighbours! If anyone is considering this machine I would highly recommend it. Cheers! mustang.
remind me what player did you have before ? What do you mean a few more pennies. The 747 at around the £800 mark is a bit on the luxury model status compared to the others you mentioned !! Enjoy.
I had the Pioneer DV-530 before. I know it's a huge jump up but I got a good deal with av-land and I came into some extra cash aswell I just couldn't resist! CYA! mustang.
I'm getting this player too. I am replacing my Pioneer 626D! Describe the huge jump in performance you got. BTW, what connection you using and what display do you have (TV?) How much did you buy the player for in the end?
..........avland are selling it for £800 and it is multiregion/RCE Pioneer 747 I'll be hanging on till the price drops or unless i find a bargin price, my 636 is just coming up to a year old, don't think the missus will go for it yet....... cheers bob
I got it for £765 from av-land, they matched the price of the special offer over at avforums. It is fully multiregion (rce etc.). Performance wise I found that the picture was much cleaner, before on some movies certain scenes were grainy but now this has gone. I have also just purchased a QED RGB scart lead so this would help aswell. There are so many settings on the 747A that most films can look much better if you want them to. Playing music is also much more detailed again there are many audio settings to help with this. I haven't got any DVD-Audio or SACD discs yet but I hope to borrow some of my brother soon. Cheers! mustang.
mustang.........is it the QED AV41 you have? I have this lead and it is a cracker, well worth the money, i have the 636 and had the AV21 connected but still got a little noise, not with the AV41 cleaned the picture right up.
I am also considering this unit but I have a particular interest in SACD and DVD-AUDIO so please let me know when you try some SACD or DVD-AUDIO discs.
Sorry Gareth but I don't have a digital camera yet If you visit AV-Land and click on either the player or remote you get a bigger image of them. Hope this helps CYA! mustang.
