Hi, I have old but decent separates (Marantz KI signature CD and AMP (KI 63 and 66)) and my partner has ordered the floorstanders (AE109s) out of the front room as they are black, old and beaten up.

We have a nice sideboard with the TV on it (light wood) and ideally we want some decentish bookshelf speakers that will work well with these components. I also don't really want to pay more than £200, and any saving on top of that is going to be great.

    Many thanks,

    Andrew.

Monitor Audio Silver S1 - old type, recently replaced with RS1 - they are still available, and I've seen them for less than £200 (£160 ex demo I think - try Sevenoaks web site) - usual price £300. They come in light oak, black oak, and a couple of other real wood veneers (Rosemah and another, can't recall).

However, they sound great, with bass down to 45Hz - you'll need stands, Atacama Nexus 6 for about £60 will do the trick.

Eltax Liberty 5's are a compact floorstander and they are really rather impressive when connected to a decent amp (I used an ARCAM Delta 60)
and can be picked up cheap, richer sounds used to sell them.

tbh, you have loads of options, just read your post again (properly) and you are looking at standmounters. Agree above with the Monitor Audios, the Bronze B2 are also an excellent speaker for the money. I reckon there isn't a real dufffer out there from the big boys, just take your amp and CD player for the audition.
