I have two small rear speakers which I'm about to replace, is it possible to connect them together to be used as a rear centre?

    thanks

In a 6.1 system, with a 3802 amp, how does one wire the centre rear. Does this leave one of the 7 Denon amp units unused?

Yes, the Surround Back Right channel is unused. Just connect the Surround Back Left channel and select the relevant speaker/s in the main SET UP menu.

Please note I can't take any responsiblity for you trying this ... if things do go wrong then you're on your own sorry ...

Yes you can do ... but wire them in series

    i.e.
    +ve amp to +ve spkr1
    -ve spkr1 to +ve spkr2
    -ve spkr2 to -ve amp

This should make sure that not too high a load is placed on the amp. Try it ... you shouldn't damage your amp or anything, so for a piece of cable it would be worth trying.
