Going to redocorate my room this weekend. Always thought that maybe my rear dipole speakers are too high, so if I want to adjust them, now is the time! :)
They currently sit about 6' from the floor, parallel to the seating position. Seating is a standard height sofa. Is this too high? What height should they be, ideally?

if your redecorating anyway id bang a few nails in the wall at different heights and see what sounds good.
this may result in a delay in the painting, Boo Hoo!
every room sounds different so its hard to give a definative 'they should be x number of cm from the ceiling' answers IMO

I've placed mine about 2m from the floor and they sound good to my ears.
    The room is 3m height.

Yeah, my room is only 2.3m high. I've just tried them at 1.75m high and they seem to sound much better....

Mine are three Ft higher than my sitting position as recomended in two or three of my av manuals.
Experiment though and leave in the position you like the most as I did - which happened to be what was advised in the first place.

Does the fact that my rears are Dipolar make no difference though?

    Hi,

The optimum height for your Di-polar surround speakers is fairly close,

they should be 1.8m to the centre of the drive units.

    Hope this helps.

Brilliant - thanks again! I had heard that di-polars had specific heights, so it's nice to know what they are! Guess mine have been too high for ages...

The manual for my dipoles says.....

"Place the speakers at a minimum height of six feet, to achieve optimal sound and to provide sufficient head clearance. Mount the HDP-2's at least a few inches from the ceiling."
