I use a dedicated centre speaker for my rear centre. My L/R surrounds are Definitive Technology BP1X and my centre is a B&W LCR60S3, the same is used for my front centre, with the front L/R also being B&W.... as speach sometimes comes from the rear centre a dedicated centre speaker would be preferable but not essential.

    Same for me.
I use a B&W LCR60s3 for surround centre duties. See below for full setup.

    Hi,

In my experience a back speaker matching your L/R surrounds is the most accurate speaker arrangement, strictly speaking it is not a centre speaker but a "surround back speaker" , in most cases a compromise must be made for different reasons, perhaps the surrounds used are not available as a single speaker, if it is a 6.1 system.

If it is possible to do so, my advice would be to use the same speaker as your surrounds, don't get me wrong a centre channel can still work really well, but remember the surround back channel is mostly effects driven not dialogue driven.

    Hope this is of interest.
