Realtime video compression?

Active Member

I have a MSI Starcam set up, and I need to use it to record for extended periods of time.

At the moment, I am only able to capture as a raw avi file, which takes up massive amount of space on my disk.

Is there any way I can record the video as a compressed format as it is captured?

My machine should be beefy enough to do this on the fly (A64 4000+ @ 3Ghz, 1GB RAM, X1800XT Gfx card)

If you can set it to work with the hardware then most video editing programs can capture direct to MPEG-2 or other formats. Even the free Movie Maker 2 software that is part of the Windows XP install can compress to .WMV format.
