ok need a bit of advice, and seeing all the other posts on here you guys seem pretty well clued up in the plasma department.

first of all the equipment ive already got:

    yamaha dsp a5 amp
    mission m7 5.1
    samsung dvd e234
    nokia mediamaster (freeview) 9850t
    xbox
phillips ugo x lite lc5141 dlp projector

At the moment I'm on a real tight budget so the Toshiba 42" from Richer Sounds seems the best bet at 1299. Anyone know of any others to compare for the price??

Also how exactly should i connect this all, dont worry about the sound side as thats all hooked up optically through the amp. I know this might sound a bit pikey of me but i here you all bashing on abou the JS boxes and rga - vga lead, but im on a budget, so please could you explain what connections are going to be best on a budget!

    many thanks,

The tosh is good for the money, you are going to want a better DVD tho! I suppose you could connect it all with s-video for the time being, but most would want better. You could connect them all with s-video via the amp, and use the amp to switch video and sound together. Nice and easy for the non technical half of the household.

    Hi mate,

Im new to all this too.

Keep in mind re richer sounds offer its nothing more than a monitor!!

You need to buy TV tuner and even the bit you plug the scarts into pushing the price up buy about 300 quid more. I know because Ive already been down that road.

    Hope this helps, Mickey

What on earth are Richer selling you guys then? A scart board is £100 for a panasonic, thought tosh ones were less. Personally I'd steer clear of scart, all his devices are offering s-video, and in the future it could be upgraded to component video. Buy a board for that, and you have it covered.

The toshiba already has a board on the back that accepts component and s video, no scart but as maw says all my bits of kit have s video out, so its going to be easier to connect it all up via that, expect the xbox which i think ill get a high def box for and run from component to vga with the mod installed. could anyone tell me if using s video you have to have s video - in and out, ie s video out of dvd into amp, s video out of amp to plasma display, as before i had s video out of the dvd into amp, then coax from amp to projector, and there was no signal, had to stick with the regular coax from dvd to amp. phew that was long!

Well then, at £1299 that makes it a steal. Is this one based on a PW6 or 7 series I wonder ?

I'm told its a pw6, but now thinking about it, with av sales offering the pw6 at 1549, this having 1 optional board and wall mount im considering upping the budget.

At the moment the toshiba at 1299 plus 100 for a mount gets me up to 1400 anyway, if only av sales lowered the price to say 1449 ;) :lease:

£100 is £100 I agree. But you're then splitting hairs with the quality of kit your getting anyway for that price. It's a bargain anyway and PW6 stocks will not last forever !
