RIght I`ve got the music together

    I`m taking
the most relaxoing classical album in the world ever.
Prodigy - music for the jilted generation
    Our lady peace - Gravity
    Radiohead - Kid A
    White Stripes - Elephant
REM - AUtomatic for the people
    Flaming Lips - Yoshimi

Got the players I`m listening to sorted

    NAd 541i
    Arcam 72t
    marantz 6000

CHose the speakers to hear it through

    Quad 11L`s
    B and W 602`s

Been informed I`ll be best with analogue coaxial with the receiver I have.

Now I just want some help in how I should go about it and what I should be listening for most. I`m feeling a bit out of my depth with this

take less & concentrate on a few tracks

classical, prodigy, rem would be my suggestion

Basic rule is to only have one variable so if you can get them to connect to your make of amp (or similar) & your make of speakers that will help enormously. If you are changing speakers as well as player then you're in for a very long session - I'd choose the speakers first then choose the cd player.

Make sure the speakers are set up similarly to how you will have them at home - if they have to go close to a wall make sure that's where they are placed.

Set the listening level to how you would really listen to it - often things sound "better" 'cos they're a bit louder.

Try to get down to two players asap and then concentrate on those & when you are down to one suggest taking it home over the weekend - if it's a reputable dealer, this won't be a problem. It's when you get it home that you should ask yourself the question - is this really what I want & if it isn't have the courage to go back and tell them - I did with the ARCAM 72T which though it was a great CD player, didn't do enough for me to justify spending £380 on it (I'm having a Roksan Kandy player this weekend).

    Good luck

Phone them first to make sure they have all the equipment you want to demo!!! No point in demo-ing half on one day and the rest another!

I rang them up and they ahve everything in I want to test.

The thing is My receiver and speaker at the mom are crap but they will be getting updated just a cd player is the most important.

I think I will go with the quad 11L`s as the speakers and concentrate on the cd player
