Re-tune killed my freeview!

OK, not quite so dramatic. I have a Sharp 46" LCD which up until yesterday gave me no problems; after getting a 'retune we have more channels' message on the tv I retuned.... And got only half the channels back! Everything was absolutely fine before with good picture and only pixelation was on C5. Tried the retune again today with no better results. Am V ticked off!
Have a feeling its the same as those other threads about ITv, C4 etc but needed to vent.

The giveaway line is "Everything was absolutely fine before with good picture and only pixelation was on C5", which suggests that your signal was marginal to begin with.
Obviously when the TV was first tuned there was a strong enough signal to find and store the channels
but
in cases where the signal isn't the best to start with the sort of problem you now have can happen.
Check the aerial recommendation by entering your postcode here
http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tvd.exe?
and compare it to the aerial you're actually using

A read through the FREEVIEW FAQ (at the top of the main page) and the links posted therein may give some reasons/guidance/help

Don't you have an "Add new channels" option rather than a full retune?

It may not have made any difference in this case if what I suspect is correct.
Although the OP said that alot of channels were missing, he didn't state if anything had new appeared that wasn't there previously:confused:

Nothing new as far as I could see... I'll have a snoop on wolfblane for some info.

Well... post code entered into wolfbane (GU21 2TD) and I'm pretty sure i'm pointing toward crystal palace so I need a hi gain aerial (which I already have!) from what the website says. Any recommendations?

UK digital TV reception predictor

From the above Wolfbane prediction Crystal Palace seems the best bet.
Things to check include:
Is the alignment correct - a few degrees off makes a big difference
Has the aerial moved?
Is the cable and any leads from wall sockets to the TV OK?
Are neighbours affected by poor reception/missing channels?
Can you try the TV with another aerial installation? (I know that's a lot to ask:()
Beg/borrow/buy, if you can, a signal booster (it may make the difference needed)

Will have a go at altering the position slightly and check out other suggestions, many thanks!

I am also on Xtal Palace (marginal) and find Freeview nearly unusable and certainly unreliable. Often lose all, or all but BBC.

Only difference I have found is that a 'new installation scan' usually works better than the auto variety (Alba stb).
