    Hello,

Today I have had a Pace 'mini-box' installed - it is a second box in my house.

It doesn't have any audio outputs and only outputs composite video.

I have a Toshiba Stata 32ZD26 so obviously I want an RGB video output.

When I spoke to Sky prior to ordering this second box I was told it would have both audio outputs and give me an RGB video signal. So obviously I'm not happy, I have spoken to them post installation and they said they only supply these 'mini boxes' as second boxes so my only option is to buy another box and return this one.

Where can I buy one and what's the cheapest option?

Many thanks and sorry for the long post.

    Matthew

Get a second hand one, look in your local newspapers and ebay of course. Go for a Panasonic, then pace then grundig.
Then just get your card re-married to new box.

If you were given inaccurate information when you ordered the second box then get SKY to refund you the cost of the minibox so you can put that towards the cost of a new one.
I am surprised they didn't let you purchase a standard digibox for £169 direct from them after all that was the deal before the minibox was released.

    Hey Guys,

    Thanks for the responses,

I've contacted Sky and they said I could return the box for a refund. However they say the price for normal digibox is £229 which seems ridiculous to me.

Money's a little tight right now as i'm looking to buy a surround sound setup.

What set top box would you reccomend? Are there any good websites for buying online? I'd like to keep the cost down if possible.

    Thanks again,

    Matthew

ps: The picture is actually very good, but I think I should still return it and get an RGB equipped one.

It's hard to say how much a digibox actually retails for as you don't see them on the high street but around £200 seems about the minimum.
Ring a couple of local sat installers and see what they will charge you for a new digibox or if you don't mind buying off ebay you might pick up a recent model much cheaper and occasionaly you'll see a dealer off loading newer models.

I read some time ago someone 'alledging' you could buy them new from Sky for £120. This was in response to my advert to sell my Panasonic DBS31 digi box for, what I thought, was a reasonable £90. I did mention they were selling on Ebay for over £100 + postage.

I was going to sell mine on Ebay, but I haven't got round to it yet and no one has replied for the digi box on this forum although I have sold the 2 dvd players I had.

Many TV sets are NOT compatible with the Digibox RGB output - you could end up with the picture shifted left, wiggly lines or washed out pictures. Make sure your TV is compatible, otherwise you'll end up buying a new TV as well!

Many tv sets are compatible with RGB inputs -- you could end up with much higher quality picture. :clown:

Sets with RGB problems have them with all sources, easiest way to check. Plug in your first Sky digibox or a games console or something else.

Personally, I've never had a tv that has RGB problems; but as Fernsehman wisely says, it's best to check.

    Hey guys,

    Thanks for your replies.

I'm gonna return the 'minibox' and look for something on the second hand market.

AndyPandy, I can offer you £75 for your Panasonic box. Let me know what you think.

    Thanks again,

    Matthew

I'm sure you 'might' find someone that will send it for £75, but unfortunately it won't be me !

I was going to put it up for sale on Ebay last week, but we are now use to watching Eastenders a day ahead on BBC 3.

When they stop showing in advance of BBC1 it will go on Ebay together with the BBC freeview card that I have.

Fair enough, I live in london so I wouldn't have required it to have been 'sent'.

    Cheers,

sorry typo , I meant ...sell it for £75 not send it...

I hope this is not a permanent thing with BBC 3 showing Eastenders in advance of BBC1 otherwise I'm going to be stuck with this box JUST for Eastenders !!! - The missus will not let it go before then !!!

    Hey guys,

Just thought i'd do a follow up.

I'm trading the stinking minibox towards a nice shiny Panasonic DSB40.

    Thanks again for the responses.

I think you mean "FTV card". "Freeview" is terrestrial and needs no card.

A friendly word of advice: Boxes with viewing cards disappeared from Ebay recently. I know that BskyB has been sending letters out to sellers. I suspect the same applies to the FTV card - you are not allowed to advertise it for sale (or free), with or without a box.

Also, as the Pace minibox is available for use *only* with a mirror subscription, BskyB *might* not authorise a new card to work in it for the new owner.

Thanks for that. I'll bear that in mind.

The grip tightens, the empire grows and the price rises !!

Is there any specific law being broken by selling the digi-box on to someone else ? Surely I own it. What use is the FTV card once I sell the digi box. I might as well give that away free !!

I know LOOT will not accept these ads, but Ebay still are - at the moment.
