After thinking about Stargate the other day it has been re-released on DVD soooooo many times and now there is an UE out!

Which film has the record for most re-releases on DVD?

I mean it's a big way of earning yet more money out of the film, I must admit to buying the newer, better versions and keeping the film companies in business!

    :D

I know you're not kidding :) I was wondering what comes after the 'Ultimate edition' now we have a new DVD edition phrase 'Extreme edition' I wonder what will come next!!:D
I'll just keep my tin edition of T2 this time I suppose it gets to a point where even I say no more and even my other half groans and complains 'you're not buying another version of that film!'

Ah sorry bud. Thought you didn't believe :D

I think it's great if they release new versions that are actually worth buying (although obviously nice if they just did this the first time round). But there's quite a few recently released and 'to be released' DVDs that are clearly just pure money makers with nothing in it for the consumer except an extra trailer and a couple of postcards. It's a shame.

The Extreme Edition falls into the 'money making' category I think and, like that last release of MiB (forget what they called it) and the new Tricked Out release of Fast & The Furious, are just really launched to boost sales of old movies at the time the sequel hits the cinemas.

I havent bought it yet but id say Army of Darkness cos every 6 months there seems to be a new edition of this movie coming out on dvd ((same version different extras)) the day they release the longer version with 5.1 sound is the day i'll bite the bullet and buy it, i'm all in favour of new versions of movies which didnt look so good on dvd first time they were released cos of the compression technologies used 2 or 3 years ago, would love a copy of Cutthroat Island in DTS and a proper anamorphic version of Armageddon the directors special edition as the version i have at the moment isnt anamorphic and i won't buy region 2 cos of the sound problems the 4% speed up affects the voices in subtle ways, i'm looking forward to the re-release of The Hunt For Red October one of my favourite films

Dawn of the Dead, has to be in with a shout.
I have 3 versions, and with Anchor Bay's impending 3 disc box-set there's more to come.
Not complaining though I love that movie!

I would imagine that people who buy more than one version of a film are the exception rather than the rule. I have been into DVD since 1997 and have only ever bought the same film twice and on that occasion I sold the original first

Another vote for Army of Darkness. I have 4 versions of that with another one on the way. :(

I have a feeling that the Matirx films will be released in different editions every six months or so as well, and I dread to think of how many versions of the Star Wars films we'll be getting over the next few years.

There was another version of The Matrix due but its been cancelled

Does this suggest the beginning of the end of pointless re-releases?
