Another successful Scottish meet, thanks go to Dave (iGiDK) one again for his efforts in organising the event.

The day had its ups and downs, the Scottish weather doing its best to confuse one again.. we walked away drenched with rain and sunburnt four our troubles.

I've spent the last hour or so going through my shots and found nineteen that I'm really chuffed with but plenty more that I'll categorise as 'test' shots, then discretely delete them ;) I'm really looking forward to seeing both Dave's pics, but I thought I'd sneak mine in while iGiDK's watching the footie.

Just visit http://www.flickr.com/photos/paulshand/sets/72157601063610253/ if you want to see them in full size

The first few were of the Red Arrows who put on a superb display

Saying the Chinook is impressive would be an understatement! How can something that big do those things???

Had a good day out today although am a wee bit sunburnt :D

Was good to meet mr & mrs onefivenine, looking forward to catching up again sometime, cheers for coming along.

Paul was shooting mainly in the 70-300mm range, Dave was using a 70-200 and I was shooting at 300mm with a 1.4TC so it'll be interesting to see a broad spread in the zoom range in the shots that we post.

Although not quite on the scale of Leuchars (in terms of size and modern military aircraft) I thought the East Fortune Airshow was well organised and had a lot of good activities for a fun family day out - there certainly were less aviation boffins there anyway, and not as much white lenses as you'd see at Leuchars either.

For an event of its scale it was good to see that the Red Arrows, Lancaster and Eurofighter were on the bill.

Nice set Paul, I really like these two here - brilliant captures

And also the large version of this one looks excellent on your flickr page:
Right, going to get my finger out and have a look through my pics now :D

This is an absolute corker. How much did you have to slip them to get them to fly straight at you?

Some excellent detail in the others. The Eurofighter is a beautiful machine. That said, for the money and time spent so far, it should be.

Great day, but from where I was positioned, just outside of the airfield, it lashed down when the Eurofighter started its display.

    Excellent shots Paul!

Can't wait to see Dave's results with the 300mm+1.4x too!

Mrs 159 and I really enjoyed it... although the drive home with a soggy backside wasn't so nice!

Right! Time to sort through mine and hopefully I'll have a few worth sharing.

Hope to catch up with you again sometime in August.

I was woken early on saturday, so I decided to go, sort of at the last minute. Some of mine, as I was camped out at the left side of the fly by zone (at the rear end of the Concorde Hanger)

I've still got another 600-700 to process, so there's a lot more of the other flights, including the Catalina.

Len: Ist and last are superb. DO you have any exif info on them

onefivenine: That first arrows shot is great. The perspective you got really makes it look like it's a collision in progress.

PMSONIC: Great start to the run of images from the day

Thanks for the contribution Len, really nice shots, saw a couple of guys with Bigmas yesterday, from your description you were probably about 100 yards from us.

    Keep em coming

(and if you ever fancy catching up at a future scottish meet you are absolutely more than welcome )

Excellent perspective on these you've really captured the moment - works great at 70mm

You've nailed the Lynx shot as well, perfect motion blur on the rotors and tack sharp on the rest of the heli

Thanks. I was the guy dressed all in black wearing the "Hacker" baseball hat. I'll try and arrange my shifts, etc, in time for the next scottish meet.

In the mean time - a further selection, from my quick trawl through the shots.

    Right!

Here's the first batch of keepers from yesterday's escapades. Shot about 3 gigs of photos which was pretty tame in all honesty - also had the AF set incorrectly during the Red Arrows slot which resulted in a few disappointing efforts.

Hand holding at 420mm while trying to get some motion blur on the props is a nightmare, even with IS!

I think the next airshow I'll shoot mainly at 300mm, a lot of the time I found it hard to frame the planes, especially when they were moving fast!

But heyho, brilliant day yesterday really enjoyed it:

Here's a couple of the Lancaster, apparently there are only 2 specimens capable of flying today, and they reckon this one will go on for another 25 years!

    - sadly the Spitfire and Hurricane could not participage in the Battle of Britain memorial flight due to the strong winds.

Had a nightmare with my camera's metering during this flight, so the results weren't the best:

David (iGiDK) - those are awesome!
I think I'll be arming myself with a 1.4x convertor next time... 200mm isn't enough... You got some peaches at 420mm though!

Looks like you had a good day out guys

As a very quick selection I'd say my faves are Pauls last in his first post you had your lucky day with your position for that shot and also got your timing perfect.

onefive I like your first one's of the arrows over the field. Great idea zooming out to capture the scenery aswell.

I really like all your helicopter shots dave and it looks like you made good use of your new lens.

iGiDK: That last image makes me feel sick to look at. It's just hard to believe they don't pile in to each other.

All in all quite happy with the results @ 420mm, next airshow I'll probably shoot at 300mm.

Really glad I shot in RAW+JPG as the ones I've posted were just quick enhancements from the JPGs due to time constraints, need to have a play with the white balance in the RAW versions when I get round to processing them properly

Mr Kendall, Wow! the first one of your fav's is superb. lone red arrow, red smoke, perfectly composed, crisp.. what more can i say!! :smashin:

Onefivenine your one taken in portrait of them swooping down white smoke billowing out from behind.. I love the way the background of the image is split by 2/3 cloudy on the right to 1/3 blue/black sky on the left, with the jets smoke predominantly in the blue/black area. Sweet!
