Hey all,

I have this player and I just bought a new 5.1 system (Sony DDWG800) and am wondering whether or not I am outputting DolbyTrueHD 5.1 into my amp correctly.

What should it show on the amps display? And what should the players audio settings be set to?

The Discs I have to test out are:-

Dolby TrueHD Tracks:
I Am Legend and Batman Begins

English PCM 5.1:
Casino Royale and Bladerunner The Final Cut

and also Hellboy 2 which has the English DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 (which I believe will output as 5.1 as my 350 doesn't output DTS-MA, am I right?)

Any ideas what my TrueHD discs and English PCM 5.1 should be showing then when I test them out?

All help appreciated :)

P.S. I'm still not sure what the difference between PCM and normal 5.1 is :S

Hi. :)
Set the player to BD Audio Direct :smashin: your amp accepts LPCM over HDMI this will give TrueHD (fully decoded) and the core track with DTS-MA (DTS 1.5Mbs) as the player cannot internally decode this soundtrack.
Will show as Multi-ch PCM or similar.
Good read on HD audio here.

Thanx for reply King.

Just wrote my current Audio Settings in the menu page and they are as follows:

Audio Output Priority -> HDMI
Audio(HDMI) -> Auto
BD Audio Setting -> Direct
Audio Att -> Off
Dolby Digital -> Dolby Digital (other option is Downmix PCM but not sure what that does)
DTS -> DTS
48khz/96khz PCM -> 48khz/16 bit
Audio DRC -> Auto
Downmix -> Dolby Surround

Not too sure if these are all set correctly.

By the way, just tested the Batman Begins BD, and with these current settings I get the following:-

When playing the TrueHD track it shows "PCM 48" on the receiver.

When playing Dolby Digital track it shows "BD" but when I pause then unpause it scrolls "Dolby Digital 3/2.1"

Does all this sound correct? Or do I need to switch some of the settings?

Yep all correct :thumbsup: maybe Audio DRC to Wide though if you use the player for DVD as well.
3/2.1 is actually 5.1 :) fronts centre surrounds and sub.

Is it worth me switching the 48/96khz setting to 96? or is it best to leave at 48?

Does it have to be 1.3 to be able to play the TrueHD track?

Reason I ask is because when I was testing Batman Begins last night, I kept switching between the TrueHD and DD tracks and to my untrained ear, they sounded the same!

No. :)
As long as the amp accepts Multi-ch PCM over HDMI then your good to go for HD audio. :thumbsup:

Cool :)

I take it that it does accept Multi chan PCM over hdmi then?

Also, and thanx for your quick replies King you're a legend ;) , would someone like me (noob!) be able to pick out the differences in TrueHD and DD anyway?
