I have ordered the RD65 today :hiya: :D

Just had to sort out whether it would fit through the front door.

I have the PDF which asks for door sizes if anyone wants it.

Should arrive this Friday. Will let you know when it arrives, and take some pics. :smashin:

Perhaps I'll put a box of bran flakes in the shot for comparison. ;)

Thanks Razor for the advice, and for banging on about it. Persuaded me to supersize my DLP. :lesson:

ordered from shootandshow.co.uk after advice from some people on this forum (thanks Neil C). People have bough projectors from them before apparently.

The price is amazing for it. With afree navman ic320 as well. Nice. :p :zonked:

Grats Jay just hope your room is big enough to make it look normal hehe, our living room is 20ft x 15ft and the tv looks decidely un-subtle in the corner my wife almost had a fit on first seeing it, but now she loves watching X-factor etc with what she now refers to as 'that bloody thing'.

Optoma reduced the price cause of ME!

I was the one who called up and had a debate with the Sales Manager...

I was the one who told them to cut prices or get stuck with the sets forever...

Nope.

Not until it hits at the least the 1800 quid price point.

Even then I'll need to think about it.

It doesn't play NTSC...

No problems mate, only to glad to help. :smashin:

I have just realised that I have had mine for over a year now.

BTW you wont notice any NTSC (60Hz) issues with a scaller or HTPC/Powerstrip.

Cool, I have my HTPC next to it , so I can try PowerStrip. Does this mean that I can play NTSC DVD's through my HTPC then?

Can't wait to see star wars on it.

I use my HTPC for nearly everything especially HD movies. Grab a media player called Theater Tek and be prepared to be blown away. (I also use fddshow for post processing)

Hi Jay,
have you got it yet ?? Im looking forward to your feedback.

I emailed Optoma and filled in their form (about 4 weeks apart) and heard *nothing* !! Amazing really as I am serious about purchasing one. This makes me wonder a little...

Did you get to demo the unit before buying ?

Cheers

They sell like 4-5 sets a year, I am sure they have enough time to read their emails - but truthfully, when I was negotiating the price for everyone, they got back to me next working day.

Well they came to deliver it on Friday. Some waster delivery men. An it was F*ing MASSIVE. Anyway we looked at the door, no joy, the side passage could maybe have taken it , but I don;t think the delivery men could be arsed. and we re ooh you'll never get it through there, for like half an hour .

My wife had gone to hospital as we were due our 2nd baby, so I couldn't be arsed with the hassle. And also looking at the size of it. I dindn't realise how it would absoultley dominate my living room. We have a fireplace in the middle of the wall and it would have obscured half of that, as it wouldn;t fit either side.

Plus we are going to move next year and I couldn't see us getting it out.

So with sadness in my heart , I gave in to the delviery men and said they could take it away.

So the plan is to get the 50inch RD and also a 32 inch lcd (as a consolation prize to me), that way I can still get to watch all my stuff and the wife hers.

Dissapointed yes, could we have got it through with a lot of strugglem in retrospect yes. However due to the fact that my wife was overdue and baby related stress I didn't want to deal with it.

Also put my back out testing the weight.

If we had a longer lounge it would have definatley been accepted. I do regret it, but I think I've saved myself loads of stress with the wife and more important things have taken over (baby born on Friday night at 11.18pm 8 pounds 11 ounces).

If the delivery men had been more positive it would have been in the lounge.

So long ramble over, I've had to 'downsize' to a 50 inch RD, and because it made me sad, I am going to use the left over money and top it up a bit to buy something like the hitachi-32LD7200 lcd.

So two screens instead of a mofo.

It was a truly spectacular size, cheap for the price.Recommend it to anyone.

You saw the box - how could you recommend something by looking at the BOX?!

I was toying with the idea of a the 65 this afternoon, I was running through the Pros and Cons of it and I am not giving up on it totally.

Realistically though, the Samsung seems unrivaled. Everyone has applauded the Samsung, especially in a Scenario V Sagem - I've owned 2 Sagem's now (56 and 45) and soon the 50 G4 but the way the company (yes, Sagem) made up some silly excuse and basically made me wait in all Friday for a delivery that was never booked is really starting to get to me. There products are not superior in anyway, suffer from Inherent Faults (Contrast/Brightness Drop Issue, Dot Crawl (Picture Noise) that they KNOW about and their current repair engineers (TSG) are TOTAL amateurs that broke the 56B when they came to replace a simple part!

So, unless the G4 impresses me and DOES NOT suffer from the same faults as the 56B or the 45, I will be moving on to Samsung and think about the RD65 - I will pay at most 1800 for it and will negotiate this with Themescene, If I managed to get them to drop for 4000 to 2300, I am sure I can get them to drop a bit more off.

It was the most impressive box I've ever seen!

If I haven't had second thoughts and got them to deliver it again, with two differant delivery men ( needs 4 people) then I'll will probably re-assess things when I've moved house.

It's not that important to be honest.

Go to a museum, watch them load and unload some exhibits, they come in uber cooler boxes that are made of wood and are filled with hay as opposed with Styrofoam - your better off recommending one of those boxes cause those are the impressive ones!
