    Hi there.
My Panasonic DVD-A360 is lablled as multi region but im unsure as how to tell if it will handle RCE discs.

Is there a list somewhere so I can tell if I already have one of these discs or is it off to Blockbusters to hire "The Patriot" with Mel "Brit Bashing" Gibson to find out.

    Cheers.

Play247.com tell you whether a disc is RCE or not so one way of finding out is to look up your dvd's on their web site.

    Thanks,

http://www.dvdcompare.org.uk/ has a similar offering in their reviews of disks. I presume most people here already use this site but I find it invaluable as to whether to buy the R1 or R2 disk.

I used to buy discs purely on the commentary but I presume once my 36" Tosh gets here I'll be paying more attendion to the anamorphic settings and whether its PAL or NTSC...

    Regards

    AHA!

    Check out this link http://www.dvdcompare.org.uk/features/rce.htm

I think you will find it not only answers my question but offeres some useful insite into RCE too. (although most of this may already be old hat to existing members of this forum).

there would not be much point into going to Blockbusters to rent the Patriot as the only discs that are RCE are region 1 as far as I am aware. Region 2 versions are not RCE and would work okay in your player

Anamorphic yes. NTSC not so much an issue.

I will choose my region based on, in order of priority:

    1 - anamorphic transfer (indeed, i wont buy non-anamorphic)
2 - Aspect ratio (sometimes different regions get cropped or opened up. Ie R2 U571 vs R1 U571)
    3 - Sound. DTS vs DD5.1 - i will prefer the DTS.
4 - Cuts. Has one regions version been cut more than another.
    5 - Price

That's about it really. The extras dont bother me and NTSC vs PAL is not a concern (it would be more on a non-anamorphic widescreen version).

Play do say whether a disc is RCE or not, but most of the time its not!!

They say it, just to cover their backs, incase the studio decide to use it!
