Just picked up a copy of this from HMV on the Carlton label.

Although not in it's correct ratio, it is in 16:9

    Better than nowt, I guess.

At last.. someone else who will admit to owning this:blush:
I have no idea why, but this is one of my favorite films. I know it's awful, filled with inaccuracies, but it's a guilty pleaure. I think it's John Barry's haunting music. I was chuffed when I saw it out on DVD. Shame about the 16:9 crop, though, especially when the titles and credits are correctly framed at 2.35:1:rolleyes:

I've never read Cussler's novel, but I do like this film.

I always thought Richard Jordan a somewhat underated actor. Guiness cameo is rather touching and John Richardson miniature work exceptional.

The claustrophobic underwater setting is beautifully embellished by Barry's evocative score. Possibly his best work.

It's main failing is the rather lacklustre direction of Jerry Jameson.

Ironically I think this is one of the worst of his books, and a shame some of the other where not filmed first.

Ironically wasn’t Raise The Titanic the film that sunk or nearly sunk, ITC/Lew Grade the producers of all those brilliant ITV series in the 50,60,70s. I think it was said it would have been cheaper to raise the real thing than make the film.

I was looked forward to them making more of Cussler's novel’s with Richard Jordan (just right for the part) but alas the film was not the hit at the box office it was hope.

This film was made in the same 'water tank' as U571, Swept Away & Monte Cristo (amongst others) in Malta.

I know cos I've been there.

Just thought you'd all like to know that (probably not!)

Here's a pic of the two tanks, ( altoug I bleieve there are three in total)..

Ideally located by the coast, it allows for sea water to be used and the horizon in the background blends in easily with the water tank in the foreground.

Didn’t they have to build the tank especially since they built a mode of the Titanic too big for the existing one?

Although I'm not sure, it's quite possible that the tank(s) was built especially for Raise the Titanic.

I've got a holiday snap somewhere that shows 'scale miniatures' of a couple of long ships and a submarine (probably for U-571) next to the tanks.

After seeing the complete hash they made in making this film, Clive Cussler vowed never to let any of his books be adapted for the big screen again.

Shame as have read most of them and they were all thoroughly entertaining (if a little too far-fetched at times!) and any one of them would make a great action/thriller film.

Sahara is due to start filming in November with Matthew McConaughey starring as Dirk Pitt.

I have also read that if it is a Success then they will flim Inca Gold, which is one of my favourite Clive Cussler books

Got all the books, love 'em all.

Can't wait for Sahara to be done, hope it's just done right. It'll make an amazing film.

I’ve read them all myself. I thought Vixen 03 the best and Night Probe not far behind. His latest one seems to be getting more far fetched. And who is that strange bloke who keeps turning up in them now.
