    Hi,

I am just planning to build a second HTPC (for use with PJ). My current set-up to my Plasma is using a Radeon 9600 non-pro as I wanted a fanless card.

The new HTPC will have to "work harder" on the PJ due to higher res (1280x720) so I'll be using my "old" 2.8 NW P4 (possibly O/C'ed to 3.56 as it is at the moment).

Main uses for HTPC are playing DVD's using MPC, NVidia DVD Codec and ffdshow. Also used with SweetSpot and DScaler for external sources.

Would a Radeon 9550 be up to the job? There doesn't seem to be many 9600 non-pro cards available now, but Connect 3D do a fanless 9550.

If the 9550 isn't up to the job then what's the next best thing? Everything seems to have fans!

    Thanks,

    Rob.

can't answer your questions, but my 9600Pro is definitely fanless, I'm pretty sure that's a 3DConnect model...?

The next best thing is my 9600Xt with a zalman passive cooler fitted!

PS, If that is too big for your case, I could consider keeping it and selling my 9200SE which has DVI, VGA and s-video output and is air cooled.

I'm running a 9550 (with fan) and the performance is fine. Minimal stutters and funning fddshow with dscaler. The 9550 can be OC'd quite a bit.
