R4 discs are normally PAL - same as ours (R2). R1 are NTSC.

PAL has a higher resolution than NTSC but films have to be speeded up by 4% (which bothers some who are very pitch sensitive). NTSC films run at the correct speed but suffer from the pull-down effect which causes a slight juddering in the picture especially on panning shots (although not everyone notices it) - do a search on this for further explanation.

Swings and roundabouts really; it comes down to personal preference.

R4 transfers are generally very good and usually aren't censored like their R2 UK counterparts (but sometimes this is not true when they get the same transfer as the UK, e.g. Star Wars Ep 2).

Oh yes, very good point :) Because they're usually distributed by Roadshow in Oz :)

    Hi Guys,
A local mate of mine & myself have been getting Reg 4 Dvds
recently. We started buying from Ezydvd, they are good but
recently the postal costs seem to be creeping upwards.

    Found DvdCrave ok as well.

Best of the all are DeVoteD.com.au , they are good on postage,
$8 aussie dollars for 3 dvds to uk aint bad!! They are pretty
fast too! Order a dvd on a Tuesday evening - had it on Friday morning!!

There are certain great titles on dvd such as JFK Special Edition
Directors Cut, Heaven & Earth, Any Given Sunday ETC. Well on
Region 1 & 2 They would be in Crap Snapper Cases. On Region 4 they come in nice solid double Amaray cases with nice Picture Disks!! However there is a drawback with some Reg4's, They don't normally have any of the 4/8 page booklets that come
with many reg1 & reg2 (even special editions). Take Platoon SE
as example. Any Given Sunday Special Edition on Region 4 is
terriffic!! Natural Born Killers on Region 4 is super but is missing
    eng subtitles!!

The Region 4 dvds are very good and you should be well pleased!! Do Try DeVoTeD dvd!!

    Word of Caution!!!!!
Don't Don't Don't order any more than 3 titles in any individual order - You could get Whacked by Customs!!! Yep Happened to
me - Had to pay Postman Extra £8!!! - Be Careful!!

Ask Squirrell God, He's pretty clever about customs!!

Don't order anything that comes to more than £17.99 (and use a strict exchange rate when you calculate) and you should be fine. :)

I do one-disk orders to be sure. :) The difference in postage between doing this and placing 2 or 3 disks in the same order is not much at all.
