So American kids will be head butting their peers in the playground.
suppose its better than shootimg them
what is it with those freaks at the BBFC and headbutts??!
I suppose chainsaws and gun battles are ok then, the sooner that patronising gravy train is shut down the better.
We'll we've always known the BBFC position on these matters and knew that once it was removed from the UK cinema print, it would go in all subsequent UK formats.
Buy R1 or R2 from elsewhere in Europe.
Yeah, posted this yesterday on the Movies and TV bit of the forum
The BBFC really do hate headbutts. They cut them from The Matrix and The Mummy Returns as well, to name but two.
I think this will affect the R4 also, which is a shame. I don't see why the Aussies should have to put up with our crazy BBFC-enforced censorship.
I believe warners cut the headbutts from the UK Matrix to obtain a 15 rating.
The BBFC would have passed it uncut with an 18 rating.
Don't say that, I'm trying to get a job there!
It's the same with AOTC. It would have been passed uncut with a 12 rating but you know what the movie studios are like - they want to achieve the biggest audiences possible to rake in the bucks.
In a way I blame the American rating system. It is the incompatibility between the US and UK ratings systems that causes the problems. I say that the USA should abandon their stupid 'R' 'PG13' 'NC-17' etc (which most people in america don't understand/like) and adopt our more sensible '12' '15' 18' system.
How do they know that?
BBFC's days are numbered, I reckon. Sooner the better.
They don't. What they meant was....
But they do like to get out their lightsabers and have a bit of a play fight between screenings
I've seen this headbutt, and if you blinked you'd miss it. As for the 12 rating which was offered, do Lucasfilm/Fox actually believe that parents would refuse to buy this film for their 5 year old because of a split second scene. I think not.
But think about getting that same 5 year old into a cinema to watch a 12-rated movie...... It would have affected box office figures.
As I understood it, BBFC says that the DVD release has to be the same as the cinematic release. Madness!
The quote by the BBFC that children don't play Hobbits is rubbish. One of our friends came over last night, with her two kids. The eldest of the two a 9 year old was wrapped in a grey blanket, which was standing in for an elvish cloak as they are quite hard to come by. He insisted on being called Frodo all evening. Where do the BBFC get their facts from?
Once again they have their heads up their own arse's.
Exactly. Kids never used to play hobbits (well, maybe one or two did). But they certainly do now!
Come on guys, they are just doing their job, and believe it or not, are trying to do the right thing.
Someone said that if you blink you miss it - so just pretend you blinked or buy the r1 version!
Lets hope kids don't play at being BBFC officials as well then!
I've seen the headbutt too and while I would agree that it is very brief, I still think it adds a certain something to the Jango/Obi Wan fight scene - a harder edge if you like. I think it's rediculous that it has been cut because every single kid in the world knows what a headbutt is. Headbutts can be seen in all sorts of TV programs before 9pm, i.e., Eastenders, Corrie, The Bill to name butt a few......
I haven't seen AOTC yet, but I can't imagine watching that fight sequence with Neo and Agent Smith in The Matrix without the headbutts, for the same reason. It would be "namby pamby" without it.
Hmm, poor arguement. Many people throughout history have claimed to 'just be doing their job' when they've actually been doing things a little less than pleasant.
And, 'right thing' according to whom?
Or, alternatively, just get your kids to blink at the appropriate moment and leave the film alone...
I am not arguing, as I am not sad enough to be bothered by a split second cut.
So that's what the rest of us are then........ .
If you're happy to buy the R2/R4 when it's the same price as the R1, then good for you.
The BBFC have to make some cuts to justify their huge pay packets.
What gets me, is they cut out an head butt, but leave in quite a few head chopping off scenes.
Anyway, just buy the R1 version. It also has the correct running speed. No Mini Mouse voices going off.
Is it me, or does anyone else hear the higher pitch sound, with the 4% speed up?
What, like the BBFC are you mean?
To be honest JD i've never noticed the speed up, but then I have a R2 DVD player and have only ever seen 2 R1 DVDs at a mate's house. I'd like to sort my DVD player out to be multi-region but it'll cost me £100 or so as it can only be chipped (its a Sony).
I'm looking forward to AOTC anyway as I liked the film, people seem to read far too much in to films, for me Star Wars has always been fantasy-forget-about-real-life-for-2-hours, which it does admirably.
I too have a Sony DVD player, and I can recommend Techtronics for their excellent multi-mods.
here's their site address if you're interested.
