Off topic but what is the customs limited? as I want to order a £17.99 DVD from playusa, would I get charged customs for that?

Wondering about the customs as well.

1) If you order the 3 sets as seperate orders are you stung by customs

2) Does the p&p count towards customs or just the value of the goods themselves.

Also, If you order 39 bucks worth of items and then add the voucher to get 5 bucks off do you still qualify for the free shipping?

This is a great offer - Cheers

Hi

1. As far as I'm aware it's per order.

2. Yes, p+p counts towards the possible custom's charge, I think.

The free shipping option is only available if the orders are to be delivered in Canada.

I was a little concerned that sets 2 & 3 aren't described as widescreen, but I've ordered them anyway :)

Thanks for the heads up captaineyecatch ;)

Pretty sure postage and packing 'don't' count towards customs. Think I read this on Amazons guide to shipping outside US & Canada.

This seems to make it pretty clear import duty is charged on postage ;)

Amazon.co.uk

Charges on Deliveries to the UK

Under EU agreements, if the intrinsic value of the goods is £18 or less you may be eligible for an exemption from duty and VAT. The intrinsic value is the actual value of the goods excluding postage, packing and other miscellaneous costs. For more information about this exemption please contact HM Customs and Excise and ask for Notice 143 "A Guide for International Post Users".

Direct from Amazon site :lesson:

Seems contradicting!!

Hope I'm not breaking any forum rules here, but over on the DVD Forums Board, paul_caygill has put up a "sticky" thread which covers this topic.

This is taken from his thread:-

"If the total value of goods in the package that are liable to duty and VAT is less than £18 WITHOUT P&P, you will not be liable for a charge. If the total value of goods in the package exceeds £18, the VAT and duty is charged on the total value of the goods INCLUDING P&P"

Lots of good info on his thread - check it out

Having just read this it seems that if your order has an intrinsic value of £18.00 or less, i.e. excluding p+p and local taxes, then customs should not apply. If the intrinsic value is greater than £18.00 then customs charges may be applied to the total value. :lesson: :D

PS I'm never gonna order anything with an intrinsic value of >£18.00 ever, ever, ever ;)

Of course the other thing worth mentioning is that when it goes through customs, it's what they think is £18 - this is based on the currency exchange rate they work on which they post here.

These rates are set monthly, and are checked once a week and changes made if they differ by more than 5% from the last published rate and amended from midnight on Tuesday/ Wednesday of the following week.

So if like me you order Stargate SG-1: Season 1 from Amazon Ca, they will put a value of CDN$ 34.49 on the package - customs using their February Exchange Rates should equate this to £14.45576 - under the £18 limit - No Problem :smashin:

Yeah I think you would be pretty stupid ordering something close (+/- 50p) to £18 in total based on a conversion you do the day you purchase it. You are just asking to be stung by some stupid exchange rates held by customs.

Seems Stargate is pretty safe, so in all intents and purpose a very good deal. Especially with the $5 off which negates most of the P&P charged by the company.

I wouldn't be that wary. I picked the cheapest shipping option and mine is due to be delivered end of March to April

So your option isn't that bad!

Help Please...

I have been trying to get hold of a 5$ voucher by registering with Amazon.ca
(As mentioned in an earlier post on this thread). I have registered under different emails and names making sure I clear all cookies each time, but thus far I keep getting emails back saying that I am already registered???

I did purchase something from Amazon.uk a couple of years ago, is this the problem and maybe they are recognising my credit card number? If this is the problem is their anyway around this?

Any advice much appreciated!

Not sure if I understand what you mean.

I registered 3 different e-maill addresses with Amazon CA when I read this thread and I am already registered with Amazon UK. I have had no problems using the $5 voucher.

Using the voucher has nothing to do with what e-mail address you register with BUT it can only be used once per e-mail address.

On your post you say you are 'trying to get hold of' a $5 voucher. You don't need to get hold of one. It was already given to you earlier in this thread. You just need to input the voucher as it appears and you will be able to use it 'once' per e-mail address you register.

Thanks for the reply Bigmonty69,

Call me stupid but I can't get to grips with this. Basically what I am doing is this... Firstly I clear my cookies and then open the amazon.ca home page...A pop up window appears offering me a 5$ coupon off my first purchase... I click on the "more details" button (same window) and a new window appears asking for an email address and a password...I do this and click continue...The next screen asks for my address, I do this and click continue... Final screen appears and asks for credit card details etc...I complete this and hit ok/finish.

At this point a final screen appears saying I have successfully registered and a confirmation email will arrive within 24 hours containing my gift certifcate. I then wait for ages (about 10 hours) and receive the following:-

Dear Amazon Customer,

We're sorry--you don't appear to be eligible for the introductory
promotional certificate offer.

This introductory promotional certificate is only available to customers
who are new to Amazon. A new customer is someone who has not ordered
anything from, or has not previously registered with Amazon.ca or any of
the Web sites operated by Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates. Please note
that registration is by e-mail address and, therefore, several persons who
otherwise satisfy the eligibility criteria, but who share the same e-mail
address, cannot use that e-mail address to receive more than one
introductory promotional certificate. Registration with Amazon must be done
by the e-mail account holder.

Because you are not eligible for this offer, your registration has been
cancelled. We will hold the information provided by you in accordance with
our Privacy Policy.

We hope that this information was helpful, and we look forward to seeing
you again at Amazon.ca.

Hope this makes more sense, and thanks in advance:mad:

Sorry Bigmonty69 I also forgot to say,

You mentioned the following:-

"On your post you say you are 'trying to get hold of' a $5 voucher. You don't need to get hold of one. It was already given to you earlier in this thread. You just need to input the voucher as it appears and you will be able to use it 'once' per e-mail address you register"

Do you mean the second post writen on this thread by Sigismund, he mentions the voucher and quotes MAPVCANADAJF which expires on 29.02.04
is this the voucher code???!!

Thanks again
