Quietly released Philips OLED 705 (Owners Thread)

Recently purchased the 705 for my mum and was wondering if anyone has managed to get Apple TV plus on it through Google Play Store? I can’t seem to find it but thought it was available on Phillips TVs. Also Now TV?

Could you plz tell me where did you find the update for the HDR???
I replaced my previous oled705 with a new model since the first one was faulty.
As soon as I received the new one and did the update that it recommended I found out that any HDR movie or ps5 content shows weird colours very bright that is trully unwatchable.
Is there any hdr update available or should i return also this one as well???

Yes, your replacement unit should have TPM191E _ 101.002.022.002 and after searching for an update in the Android menu TPM191E _ 101.002.098.000 can be downloaded and installed. - After the process, you need to restart the TV completely - also from the Android menu.. - It sounds as if you only need to do a restart?

I did a restart from the android settings and it is fixed! Thank you very much!!! Now ps5 also works perfectly.
Now, I am trying to find the correct pictre settings to watch sports. I am fiddling with the motion styles but i cannot reach a smooth image. Either the ball will flicker or the players will have an aura or the video seems to lose frames. This only happens when i watch sports and especially football.

I haven't watched football on it yet but, for motion I set it to personal.
Perfect Natural motion to off
Perfect clear motion to Maximum
That looks good for most of my viewing.

Can you please share with me the exact step to restart the Android settings. Never done it in the past, step by step please.

Regular TV looks bright and crisp but you need to play around with the picture settings. Like Clearandcolour said, motion is the biggest issue. I got it sorted out fairly good, even a football game was pretty smooth.
I know you said that you don't care about the apps but I have to say that Dolby Vision on Netflix looks amazing.

If anyone else has tips or tricks regarding settings/calibration, please do let me know.
How did you sort the football issue please

You just need to go to settings. So, press the menu button in your hand controller that is positioned top left. Then look for Android settings and press. Then, press Device Preferences. Then press About. Finally, press Restart. Thats it!

I am very interested in your picture settings as well! I have a problem with motion in football matches! If you want plz share it with us.

No problem, happy to help.
For normal tv, sdr content, i use the ISF day setting.

I turned off:
Colour enhancement
HDR upscaling
Perfect contrast
The lightsensor
Ultra resolution

I turned on:
Noise reduction - minimum
Mpeg artefact reduction - minimum
Perfect natural motion - minimum
Perfect clear motion - minimum

I tried a lot of different motion settings during Euro 2020, i found this works best for me. Same goes for regular tv.

Hope this helps!

I noticed myself the latest update is a little disappointing in terms of ambilight, in dark scenes on both Natural and Vivid mode before the light would go off completely in darker or black scenes which was great, but now in Vivid the light goes fully white in black scenes which is crazy, and the Natural mode glows a darker shade of white.

Game mode does make the image go fully black in darker scenes, but it also doesn't glow as bright for other colours, and is much faster and not right for watching movies with. A shame really, the ambilight worked better before they started fiddling with it. Anyone who also has an issue with this, my best advice is bringing it up to Philips, if enough people do they might sort it again.
Same thing happened here. Used the update feature in the TV settings the other day and it updated to tpm191e_r.101.002.098.000. Immediately I noticed that the ambilight is functioning completely different in most modes. Standard, natural, sports and vivid mode all changed for the worse, meaning that the ambilights never go completely off when the area of the screen is dark or black. They always stay on. Only in ambilight mode "game" do they go off completely but that mode responds too fast and is too "nervous" for my taste.

I've contacted Philips support in The Netherlands about this (where I am located). They first wanted me to do a factory reset using the joystick method. I asked whether that would reset the firmware back to the original firmware it came with when I bought it and if so, what would happen when using the update feature in the TV settings. If that would result in updating straight to the latest version or if that would update in steps. Their response was a bit strange as they never answered that question but instead gave me instructions to update the firmware via USB stick and providing me with a link to a firmware file. They gave me the link to firmware version tpm191e_r.101.002.098.000, which is the one that's already on my TV now and the one that changed the ambilight behavior. So I responded to them with the fact that I want to downgrade my firmware or have some kind of other way to get version tpm191e_r.101.002.022.002 back on my TV, as in that version the ambilight system functions as it did before. Their response was to hand it over to the product specialists and as soon as they have an answer from them I would hear back.

I have a feeling this will never be changed back in a future firmware, which would completely suck.

Afternoon all, I just joined as I purchased a Philips 705 55" in the UK from Currys. I got it last Friday (13th August 2021) but didn't really use it until yesterday (16th of August 2021).

At first amazing, watched Our Planet on Netflix looked super clean. Maybe a bit of motion distortion on near field snow when showing helicopter shots but could have sorted with fiddle in settings I think.

Did a software update today and have the horizontal banding issue seen in this thread, all inputs and from power on so shows on Philips logo too.

I have a replacement coming on the 19th of August.

So ironically this morning it seems to have gone. I watched Endgame last night on Disney plus which looked great. Not sure if this knocked the panel back to correct operation. Still going with replacement though.

@Ronner - did you find a mode that worked as intended - dimed in dark scenes etc.? Looking forward to hearing how to downgrade the firmware.

Thanks a lot!

@VikingOne, not a mode that works as intended or how it used to work, but with ambilight in "game mode" the lights are completely off near darker/black areas of the screen. In that mode however the ambilights respond very fast so it may feel kinda nervous to watch. It's better than the lights being on near darker/black areas though.

I can't say if that mode is available on your model. I have a 65OLED935/12 model.

So far I haven't heard back from Philips on how to downgrade to the previous firmware, but I hope it will be possible and that a future firmware reverts this behavior as it is really annoying.

Just about to move and was planning on wall mounting the TV for the first time. It's a new build with hollow walls but was planning on buying a wide bracket and attaching it to a couple of studs. Is that a bad idea? Folk must attach heavier TVs to hollow walls. Anyone wall mounted this to a hollow wall yet? Cheers.
Got a new build house and my 65 inch mounted on it. You def want to find the studs and have it screwed into at least 2 of them, wouldn't want to try my luck with just the plaster board.

Since the latest update the ambilight has been worse, but also every day or so the TV demands a 5 minute panel refresh. So weird. The latest update is basically a downgrade for this TV it seems.

Not personally noticed the ambilight but have noticed random crashes on prime video. Watched clarksons farm and every second episode it would freeze when I skipped intro and I had to go into Android settings, clear cache and force close before it would work again

Does this support Freesat properly? In that it will automatically sort the channels and have EPG for you. I have seen people complain about Currys claiming Freesat support but really it just has a tuner and you have to manually sort out the mess.

So, i just downloaded the update my tv was pushing several days and i like the results! Amazon Prime HDR content isn't dark anymore and casting from my phone is working again (found out i couldn't cast about a week ago). Ambilight seems to work fine but i haven't tested it in the dark yet.

Edit:
The ambilight not turning off issue is real. I put in a ticket at the Dutch Philips forum.

Trying to decide between this and LG BX.
Can someone confirm freesat is working well enough to be usable?
Should this TV be brighter than the LG BX? I read that the 805 is brighter than the CX.

I don't know about freesat. But, I'm very happy with the brightness of the tv.
I had an lg 910v Oled and it was so dim compared to this.
It can't compare to Qled but, I wasn't expecting it to be as bright as it is.
I'm very happy with it.

How good is the sound?
Most oleds seem to have almost no height on stand so hard to put a soundbar infront.
