Hi there I'm in the market for a Mid range projector around £5-600 I need it to be as quiet as possible though due to it being located overhead above the sofa :-( at minute I've got a cheap Chinese HQD model(bought to see how I liked having no TV)
What can you all recommend please.
Used for TV and films,no gaming.
Needs to have hdmi input though.
    Thanks

Just read the review of that Epson and it says it is quite noisy.

I am after exactly the same thing mcmental .... The Panasonic AE6000 is really quiet ( 22db) and the Sony VPL HW40 is 21db. Both well over budget though .

I'm still looking .... Must be long throw for me too !

Yes it is noisier than the larger chassis models but other than that in his price range you are looking at DLP models which are usually even a bit louder.

A second hand Epson TW3200 or Panny LCD at under £400 would be around 22db in eco mode so would be a better option as far as audible noise is concerned.

I need to find a place I can go listen and look. Was on a course at work other day and he had an aptoma and it was about a 10th of the noise of mine.

Well if you can live with an Optoma DLP regards noise and rainbows (not that they are bad for either) go for one of those.

I have an older optoma HD20 1080p model and sit 3ft from it and don't find it too noisy. They do 2-3 models in the £500-600 range that offer great images and generally reliable.

Other than my own that is the only other projector I've ever heard running, I will find a shop I can go and see some working before I take the plunge.
    Thanks
