Bit confused about graphics cards. Can you tell whether it's fanless or not by the chipset or the manufacturer? For example, can i assume that every ATI Radeon X300 will be fanless? Or is it only one's made by Sapphire etc?

No you can't assume that - you need to check on the manufacturers website what the specs of the card are.

Just to confirm - by the manufacturer you mean the likes of sapphire/gigabyte etc? On that note, does anyone know which makes of the Radeon X300 are fanless?

Yes, that's what I meant, or you could check with the retailer who you are proposing to purchase it from, easier if they have pictures on their website, but not always to be trusted - I don't know the answer to your other question though, sorry - I expect someone else will be along soon he does.

ok, thanks. i guess the problem is lack of documentation - not many of the descriptions mention noise levels etc.

We only stock fanless graphics cards and the Sapphire are amongst the best. Have used their X300 in a number of systems to good effect. Tried a few others and even some that showed graphics of the card as fanless yet had a fan when it arrived. Also be careful as Sapphire have two versions one with and one without DVI.
