    Hi Folks,

I have just built myself a new, low budget HTPC system (specs below) and am now looking for a quiet DVD writer as am currently using an old IDE that I had lying around.

Not terribly interested in HD or Blue ray at the minute as WAY to expensive. Would like it be be both + & - R/RW, dual layer, Silver (a must) and vewy vewy qwiet.

I was looking at the NEC Optiarc AD-7170S-0S

But the first review specifically states not to put in a HTPC as is particularly noisy.

If you wonderful folks here at AV could give me a few nuggets of your experience with these devices I would much appraciate it.

    Many thanks for your time,

    DCH
