Quiet DVD Drive

    I understand things get noisy when loading software,

    but what would you guys recommend for virtually silent DVD / CD playback?

    NEC3520a is good.
    As you say when spinning at full chat it's noisy as hell, but at normal CD/DVD speeds it's a good'un

    I think what you really need is something like nero drivespeed to limit the speed at which your drive spins.

    I use it in my HTPC and it works fine, if I remember correctly, I think you can set it at 1x for playing dvd's which makes your drive very quiet while watching films :thumbsup:

    Have tried Nero but mine still sounds like a washing machine lol!!

    Interesting choice of power amp there bingo, I use a 2100 as a subwoofer amp because of the sheer amount of poke available ;)

    I got hold of an ASUS E616P2. This is by far the quietest DVD drive I have come across. (rom only though)

    I use an Asus as well (with their 'floating drive technology', or something like that). Had no problems and very quiet
